The Ceiling of Weber State Basketball

What do you guys think the ceiling is? Should we as fans think of dancing in the sweet 16 or beyond? Has the ceiling already been met with Ron A.?

Maybe the better question is what is our ceiling while in the BSC, aka the one that thinks Reno is a great idea.......

Given that no Big Sky school has won more than one game in the NCAA tournament since 1977, and that no Big Sky school has won a game in the NCAA tournament since 2006, I'd say your ceiling is probably winning the conference and, every ten years or so, winning an NCAA tournament game. I'd say that is probably Montana's ceiling as well.

For most other teams in the Big Sky, I'd say that winning a conference championship once every 10 or 12 years is probably their ceiling. For Idaho State, I'd say a .500 record once every 10 years or so is probably our ceiling.

this is how we can change things at wsu...it can happen on wed night after one of us wins and donates.

Current Estimated Jackpot $1.40 Billion
Drawing Days Wednesday & Saturday at 10:59pm ET / 7:59pm PT

How much money would you have to donate to each school to get them to vote to oust Doug Fullerton?

I think 100 million to Weber would raise the ceiling a little.

We are 21 years removed from our win over Michigan State, nearly 20 years since North Carolina win. So, our ceiling is a win in the dance every 20 years? Man, we need a new conference bad. You can read other posts by myself, no doubt Randy will win "league" this year. 16 seed seems right, is this what $400k a year buys???

Maybe Tal or Sir velo (catcat) can come up with some numbers regarding the Stew Morrill coaching tree? What is the overall record for win vs losses in the big dance for that pedigree? Stew: 1-8? Randy: 0-2, Dave Rice: (fired this season already)? Anyone else I'm missing? I think that coaching system is flawed, personally. Recruiting is great, coaching is super below sub par....

It's s lost cause if you measure by tourney wins. Since weber went d1 I think the below are accurate.

Since 1964

Usu 4 wins
Wsu 6 wins
Byu 10-11 wins
Utah .... probably 35-40 wins?

I think usu has 1 win in past 30 yrs. Byu had none from 1993 til jimmer. Minus jimmer and Ainge yrs...all our teams are pathetic in post sea son except utes.

If you are a big time recruit scouted by the bigger or more known programs that's where you go.every other school gets the drippings.that's a fact.

I think the ceiling is high for the program. There is so much potential! But, the problem is tapping that potential. The issue right now, which is extremely frustrating, is that it seems that Weber State Sports is like an untapped oil well. The crude just runs out and nobody is doing anything to catch it. Athletics seems like a bunch of dudes chillin by the crude stream using their hats, Big Gulp cups, and random buckets to take as much as they can, but that is about all. So much more revenue could be generated if marketing actually created a plan and executed it. If athletics would generate more money, the program could use that to create better TV contracts, bring in better teams, create a tournament, etc etc etc.

Another area they really are letting go by the wayside is student participation. That is a gold mine but no...nothing gets done or improves. Where does athletics think their future donors, boosters, and supporters are going to come from? That would be my top priority. Improve student attendance. USU season ticket holders love the antics of their student section. That student section has a powerful influence over the course of games and makes the Spectrum feel impervious and intimidating. Also, they increase the number of butts in the seats (i.e. fill the empty spots) and make it loud. It is almost like another form of entertainment for the season ticket holders.

To me, those things are holding back Weber as much so, or more so, than the coaching.
