The curse of the semifinals

There might be something to this. But even the Cubs made it to the world series this year. We'll get back to the promised land one of these times.

How can we lose to an inferior team like Youngstown without most of their starting secondary? The refs blew calls and we didn't make plays, I am sick about the whole thing.

Frustrating, yes. But we have the pieces coming back to make another run.

We lost to a team who's played great defense all year and recently discovered a passing game to balance out the offense. Scoreboard says we were about equal.

I don't think we're stealing WSU's fans. I think we're trying to make our own alumni base less apathetic and have made significant strides in that regard the past several years.

This team, Beau, and the entire program the last 10 years are incredible. I will never act like a grizzly and expect to win it every single year nor would I suggest a different head coach. However, until there are wholesale changes with the defensive philosophy get used to this. You have to stop the run in December. ND State the last 5 years and the two teams in it this year stop the run.

There is no curse

i agree with this and would add that we also need to run the ball better. is it just that we recruit outstanding pass blockers? I honestly dont know.

O-line was a big question mark heading into the season and one of the reasons I thought we'd finish around 8-3 or 7-4. We were very young and inexperienced so I think we game planned away from the run to play to the strength of our receiving corps and Gage's feet. Although we did have at least one game late in the season where we rushed for around 250 yards.

This o-line will become a strength with a little more experience and pounds. We are always going to chuck it quite a bit but the losses at WR, and the young talent at RB I wouldn't be surprised at all to see us become more balanced next season.

Gage Gubrud is legit and it's comforting to know we're getting him back, and getting the whole OL back along with him seems to set us up nice for next year.

Most of our defense is back, too. Next year has a lot of potential, but again, we have a tremendously unfavorable schedule. We need to win one of the games at Texas Tech or against NDSU--- and we'll likely be underdogs in both. If we lose both of those, we go to NYC essentially with the season on the line in week three.

It would be nice to get a few ready-mades on defense for next year. I'm not a big advocate of getting transfers, but it might make sense. James Madison and Youngstown State, the finalists, have both used transfers to get there.
