I wonder what the future holds for these two post season tournaments. The CBI only has one power 5 school participating (Colorado). But Colorado's best player opted not join his team in the CBI. Several power 5 schools turned down the CBI. So the CBI is primarily a mid-major tournament.
So now the CIT has a some teams that barely had a winning record participating. I have never been a fan of how the CIT does not have a set bracket and does not have clear guidelines on who will host games. I have read a few places that teams do not want to host CIT games and incur the cost. The biggest flaw I see this year is that two of the stronger teams in the CIT, from the same conference are meeting in the second round. I think it is a shame that they have NAU playing Sac so early. In looking at the teams they are the only teams from the Western two time zones left. But the CIT always appears to be an unorganized cluster.
I know that coaches like the chance to play on and keep practicing. But I wonder what the staying power of these small tournaments is.
