The future of the CBI & CIT

I wonder what the future holds for these two post season tournaments. The CBI only has one power 5 school participating (Colorado). But Colorado's best player opted not join his team in the CBI. Several power 5 schools turned down the CBI. So the CBI is primarily a mid-major tournament.

So now the CIT has a some teams that barely had a winning record participating. I have never been a fan of how the CIT does not have a set bracket and does not have clear guidelines on who will host games. I have read a few places that teams do not want to host CIT games and incur the cost. The biggest flaw I see this year is that two of the stronger teams in the CIT, from the same conference are meeting in the second round. I think it is a shame that they have NAU playing Sac so early. In looking at the teams they are the only teams from the Western two time zones left. But the CIT always appears to be an unorganized cluster.

I know that coaches like the chance to play on and keep practicing. But I wonder what the staying power of these small tournaments is.

As long as schools are willing to pay the tournament fees and the other teams travel expenses, then I think these things will remain viable. You just have to be able to sell enough tickets to make it financially viable. If you don't sell enough tickets your school could lose money on the deal. It's probably a break even for everyone else involved. :twocents:

To tell ya the truth....right now I don't give a **** about the future of these tournaments....I only care about whether we beat NAU in the "Nest" Saturday night.....everything else is irrelevant.....BTW, Sac is playing NAU because we are the only western teams left and we have the better RPI so we get the home game....I have my tickets and am ready to rock....

This post pretty much sums up why these two tournaments will continue. Gives teams a chance to keep playing. I don't have a dog in this fight, just happy that a Big Sky team will make it another round into the tournament.

I can't remember how much it cost to host those CIT games. I would imagine that with a 1200 seat capacity it will not be a big money maker for Sac. Maybe there is so much interest that we can finally see what a game would look like in the well. But anytime a Big Sky wins a tournament game it is good for the conference. Both teams went on the road and came home with victories. Heres to another Big Sky team going to the CIT final.

By the way, the RPI rule doesn't always hold up. A few years ago it seemed like the rules changed every round. Like the year when USU hosted all the way to the final. A few of their opponents had better RPI's.

Since we are playing NAU it guarantees a BSC team into the round of 8.....which BTW is televised on CBSSports....
