CONGRATULATIONS TO BRUCE COLLINS. Second Wildcat to have his jersey retired.

Can't wait! Bruce Collins & McCarthy's Kids are the best ever! Well deserved accolade for Collins. He's my all-time fave at WSU with Dame a close second, or maybe flip-flop that, it's really close. Was that the old brown & yellow Montana unis in the video? That's as ugly as Davis High-- gold & brown, flush it down!

 Just have to join in on that...luved Collins, his talent, drive, the excitement he brought to so many of us avid fans back then...awhh, the sweet memories! :thumb:

I like how he followed his shot and had a knack for getting the ball. Try to find an empty seat in DEE Center from the footage in that promo video.

Right, I grew up believing that's what 8K-11K attendance looked like. Nowadays, purple seats seem to account for 2K-3K.

The Great Bruce Collins! Wow, that video brought back a lot of memories! He was my favorite as a 10-12 year old kid growing up in Ogden. Everyone fought for the number #22 on my basketball team. Watching that video again, how did he not make it in the NBA? He had the skills... In any case, one of Weber's greatest! Honor very much deserved. Congrats Bruce!

I wish someone could find the video of a dunk the "High C" made against the PUkes. If I remember correctly as I was at that game, Bruce went airborn at or near the freethrow line. It was a 1 on 1 breakaway and he made an around the back move as he left the floor and laid down an awesome jam! The ref called traveling. Replays showed that it was not. The stupid zebra had just never seen a move like that and didn't know what to do....lol
But it was a fantastic play none the less. The boos went on forever. I have to believe that someplace in the WSU video archives that it can be found.

I am vaguely remembering your description of this, I would love to see it (again) too.

Great write up about one of our all-time best!! Thank you Paul!!

I'm pretty excited about Saturday!! I never saw him play, but I have heard stories my entire life. I remember the Dee always being full, and the expectation to see Weber win. To me, that was a tribute to what was achieved by McCarthy's Kids and the legacy of Weber State's success, which Bruce was an enormous part. Such a deserving honor for him. Thank you Bruce for all that you have done for Wildcat Basketball.

Is it to much to ask Athletics to market a little more on campus and in the community for the game on Saturday?

Gotta love the afro! Not Collins-- Johnson, Mattos, and Smith.

Bruce had some amazing dunks. When they called traveling on him, he did take extra steps, all of them in the air. They showed it over and over on the news. I think that it went nationwide. The ref couldn't tell the difference between feet on the ground and feet in the air. I'm sure that ref was totally embarrassed by that call. I think that we won handily anyway. I seem to remember that the refs were WAC refs. The Pukes insisted on it.

As good as some of his dunks were, there were better dunks happening in practice and pick up games. McCarthy didn't like showboating in games. Consequently, Bruce didn't show everything in his bag.

During those years, there were some epic battles between Bruce and Michael Ray Richardson of UM. Our rivalry with UM goes back a long way. :thumb: :thumb:
