Did y’all follow Madison Guernsey’s list of the top 10 most impactful players for Idaho State football?
You can read any of those stories here: http://www.idahostatejournal.com/se...=editorial&q="10+most+impactful"&nsa=eedition
Madison also put together a list of five breakout candidates for the 2016 season. That list is here: http://www.idahostatejournal.com/se...ion&app=editorial&q="5+to+watch"&nsa=eedition
If you missed any of those stories, I’d suggest checking them out. It’s a great way to familiarize yourself with the team as fall camp grinds into gear. Madison’s lists are below …
Madison’s top 10 most impactful…
1. Tanner Gueller, QB
2. Taison Manu, S
3. Mario Jenkins, LB
4. Skyler Phillips, OL
5. Jakori Ford, RB
6. KW Williams, WR
7. Chase Collins, OL
8. Josh Cook, TE
9. Sean Cheney, P
10. Anthony Ricks, CB
Madison’s 5 breakout candidates…
— Michael Dean, RB
— Pat Carter, WR
— Nikko Taylor, DL
— Ty Flanagan, RB
— Rasheed Williams, DL
What do all of you think? What do your lists look like? Here are mine …
1A. Tanner Gueller
1B. Tanner Gueller
1C. Tanner “Idaho State desperately needs good QB play” Gueller
2. Taison Manu
Hate to use this cliché, but it’s true: The QB of the defense.
3. Mario Jenkins
After a year off I’m sure he’s put on muscle and looks freakin’ fantastic. You see him and immediately wonder, “How in the heck did this guy end up at Idaho State?”
4. Jakori Ford
5. Skyler Phillips
Kramer says again and again this guy is an NFL-caliber offensive lineman.
6. KW Williams
His level of importance only feels heightened after the news about Broc Malcom.
7. Rasheed Williams
I understand why Madison has this guy as a “breakout” player, but he’s too valuable to me for that list. He had a really solid freshman campaign, and Williams might have the ability to give Idaho State something no other Bengal has in the Kramer era: An elite pass rushing threat.
8. Sean Cheney/Zak Johnson/??
Cheney is going to punt, maybe. Johnson is still going to handle field goals and extra points, right? And exactly who is going to kick off? All three of those areas were an unmitigated catastrophe in ’15. Just by that fact alone, the kickers in special teams are vitally important.
9. Anthony Ricks
Idaho State had three senior corners last year. Ricks still managed to snag a starting job once Idaho State was in conference play. The ISU defense really needs him to show up at fall camp and definitively claim one of the two CB spots to solidify that position.
10. Josh Cook
10B. Jayson Miller/Nikko Hayes
Kramer’s go-to quote about his defense: It’s a unit that will only go as far as the safeties take them. Well, Miller or Hayes are slotted to be that second safety on the field with Manu. Will one of them develop the same rapport with Manu as Cody Sorensen did in 2014?
Five players poised to breakout for Idaho State in ’16
— Ty Flanagan or Ford’s backup
— Nikko Taylor (This guy honestly belongs on the other list. That’s how crucial of a role he’ll play.)
— Chase Collins
— Chris Reynolds Jr. (Love this kid. He’s got to get on the field.)
— Joe Martin (This guy is awesome. He’s physical and energetic. He’s got a nasty attitude that I dig.)
