We haven't seen it since 2000. Do we have a chance this year? Our first test is Nov 25th. BYU has won it 2 yrs straight.

Oquirrh games
Nov25: @ USU
Dec3: BYU
Dec13: @ SUU
Dec20: @ Utah

Ya have to look like this is the best chance they have had in a long time. It will be very good year for the Bucket. Most of the teams are very good, and they I thing that most games will be a very good. Utah vs. BYU is always good, USU vs. WSU is always good, BYU @ WSU will be a good game, SUU will get squashed most of the time, and UVU will have some suprising wins this year. Utah and USU will be a good game this year to. BYU will not play USU becasuse they are scared of the Aggies.

This might be a very difficult year to win the Bucket with three road games and the Y at home. If the Cats can get it the bucket this season, then they would be a shoe in to repeat next year, since they will have three home games and one on the road. Traditionally the Cats have played well in the Huntsman Center; however, the Cats also have to play in the Spectrum (USU) and the Centrum (SUU). The Cats have a good record in the Centrum, but playing in Logan is never a very appetizing predicament. All I know is that this years team is going to be able to play with anyone.

With that being said... I don't think very many Utahans Know about the Bucket. We should do something to get the Bucket more ink and notoriety. UVTech is included in the Bucket competition?

A. dont call em UVTech, they are lead by a great coach, WSU alumnus Dick Hunsaker!

B.Yes, UVU is also included, though, they along with SUU are not included on the trophy itself. Neither have ever won the bucket.

Bucket winners:

Utah: 14
BYU: 8
USU: 7
WSU: 4
SUU: 0
UVU: 0

Too bad the bucket didnt start til 1975. We woulda cleaned up from 1965-1973. We finished 4 seasons in top 20 of the AP Top 25.

Our Boy Dutch Belnap won the first 2 buckets as the USU head coach. Then Weber won the 3rd bucket. It wasn't until yr 4 and 5 til BYU and Utah won the bucket.

Yes, Hunsaker was a great player for Weber State, and was/is a good coach, but he does coach for that school in Orem, which isn't a real university. Its a glorified ATC, that happened to become a university because the state legislative leadership is from Utah County. My question is, why does CATCAT have such an affinity for the Wolverines? UVwhatever, takes away from Weber State and limits our academic and athletic development. It was only suppose to be a cc, but for some reason the great leaders of this state thought it appropriate to create a public feeder for a private institution. UVSC is an acronym for Couldn't Get Accepted To BYU!!!

Reason: BYU/Utah/USU used to and still do treat WSU like you are treating UVU. Just lame is all. USU was very unhappy and didn't want us to become a 4 yr in 1964 as as well a U in 1990.

Doesnt' look like it affected them much...yes they sucked at football long before 1990.

UVU needs to be a U, they have more students than WSU and USU!!!

I will admit I don't want want them to get a football team...

If we are going by student population why isn't SLCC a university then? SLCC is the largest institution in Utah...Should Wake Forest be a university (2,500 students) or American (10,000). Student Population is not a good indicator for transition. Also Weber was 101 years old when it finally attained university status, and the only way Weber could become a U. was if SUU came along with us (SUU was about 90 years old). Weber earned it!!

Weber also didn't grow to 25,000 students overnight either like UVU did.

I love the debate over UVU being a real "university." Very entertaining, guys.

I have to lean toward the side of UVU being a fake school which thrives on BYU rejects. The fact that LDS kids from around the country actually move to Utah to attend school there makes me giggle like an anime geisha. He he he he. The place sucks. No one, not one single student, actually wants to go to UVU. If any of the 25,000 students there was offered a seat at BYU, they'd leave in a second. It's a default school, a place kids go to lick their wounds of rejection.

Speaking of Hunsaker, he's a decent coach, but even his own son (Holton Hunsaker of Woods Cross High School) spurned him for a bigger and better basketball program (I think he ended up playing at Louisiana Tech for some reason). In 50 years, UVU will still have the stigma it has now. The continuous stream of second-rate students will ensure that.

JimmyD,

Holton went to La Tech because their head coach is Kerry Rupp, former East High coach. Not East high in the movie!! In real life!! lol

Rupp was an assistant at Utah during the final yrs of Majerus. Before that he was at East High where he coached 2 former Weber State players you may have heard of: Talmadge Eyre and Lance Allred.

Basically Holton was good enough to go to the WAC so why to go Independent 0 chance of NCAA Tourney UVU?

As for UVU being BYU rejects...thats a bad thing? Most would call that a "blessing in disguise". It's too bad though all these kids from around the country trying to go to BYU, I think they'd be pissed if they would have known about Utah/USU/WSU.

Minus the dress/honor code and religious classes as part of your degree...the rest of the schools aint much different. But don't tell em, keep the weirdos going to byu lol! Or as they say in Logan, "BYU, keeping ugly girls out of USU since 1888".

I would gladly go to UVU over BYU, but I don't know how long I would last...after all its still in Utah County.

Oh and I still think WSU is better even though I defend UVU, WSU has 215 bachelors degrees, teh most in the state. UVU has 56, give them time to grow, build programs. But they still do have a high number of Community College/ATC type programs/certifications.

I just realized something... I don't think Weber has ever sweep instate competition. Yes, Weber has won the bucket, but, I think, they have always had one loss when doing so... Hmmmmm

Why aren't the University of Phoenix or Stevens Henegar being mentioned here. If any of them got a sports team the rest of the schools in Utah would be SCREWED, including UV tech.
