The PAC/MWC Dominoes Begin to Fall

What does a school like Tarleton offer that would make them more attractive to a conference than Sac? While the effort put forward by the school and local leaders is encouraging and would suggest theres discussion of a path to either the MWC or PAC, the lack of commentary outward from any sources from those conferences about adding Sac is a little discouraging.

Emotional roller coaster for sure. Dr. Wood still giving interviews and Sac-12 is still pushing. Which means we can take solace in the fact that Sac State hasn't explicitly been told no.

UTEP is officially Mountain West 7. If Mountain West 8 is Tarleton they would
Have 9 football schools. Do they want 10 full time and 11 footballl? I’m not thinking so.

That means Pac-12 wise. They can grab Texas State and be done.

I think it might be over before we were seriously in it. We were in it in our minds, but no one else’s.

Oil money and access to Texas recruits. That said, there's no reason why both us and Tarleton couldn't be FBS when this is all said and done. Also CUSA will need to add so they may be in play for Tarleton.

Everyone relax, the invites to current FBS members was always going to happen first.

Sac State's strategy means MWC and PAC do not have to court them. These conferences will lock down schools that have to be convinced or that have other options first. It's late in the game, but Sac State was always going to be the last team added if they get in.

That's what 75yrs of nothing will do to you.
What I read on other boards is where was all this support for Sac State for the past 10yrs?
Blame the school, blame the now energized city/state officials who did nothing.

Its like trying to lose 50lbs in two weeks to look good at the HS reunion.
Ain't gonna happen.

It also is the conferences playing the long game.
Oh sure, "look at Sac State and their flash in the pan activity."
Both conferences want long term, consistent, proven support and ability.

I mean, this Las Vegas insider is saying Sac State has essentially turned down the MWC. That would be absurd if true. All in on PAC-12 with no safety net.
Sac hasnt done everything it needed to do. An arena is kind of important. Gonzaga isnt going to play in the student union no matter how much lip stick is put on. Plus, Sac hasnt proven they can consistently gather more than 700 people for a BBall game or climb higher than .500 in conference. Football is dropping like a stone too.

I hear you. I'm frustrated too. This is an easy sell if we had started this work 10 years ago and answered the call when the WAC begged us to help save the conference.

Gonzaga playing in G1C would draw from miles around though.

It didn't really when they've been playing in Stockton -- those games haven't been selling out a 6,000 seat arena.
