The parade of kids leaving begins

Zach Whelan has officially asked for his release and is now gone from PSU Football. Daniel Halverson already gone too. Two down nine to go. Keep up the good work coaches. How can we be losing the best class we ever recruited?

The coaches still have time to start doing the right things but we'll see if their egos allow them to do it. For the most part these kids don't need the money football offers them. They came to play for the love of the game. Once you suck the joy of playing football from their life's they have no reason to stay.

If the coaches want the respect of the team they need to start to respect the players and what the players do for them day in day out. They need to embrace the players that are leaders and let them lead. They need to take the personal crap out of their decisions and let players play that should be playing.

The story will continue to unfold over the next 6 weeks. We, as fans, are hoping the coaching staff starts to do the right things and can save these kids and start winning ball games. Only time will tell.

I really hate to see Whalen go. We could have really used him at OLB this year. I knew he was hurt but I didn't know he was unhappy. I don't think there was any doubt that he would be starting if healthy.

Halverson leaving is/was no surprise. He's been gone for a while now. Once his brother was offered at SMU I think it was his intention all along to find a way to get there and going JC was the only way he didn't have to sit out a year.

Funny thing is Whalen left because he couldn't stand the constant ridiculing he was receiving not even playing time. He wants to be in a positive environment and be with coaches that want to do the right thing because it's the right thing to do.

The sad part is that we are going to be sitting in the stands watching the very kids we had on our team making plays against us in the next couple of years. The bad news is he is only one of many that will be pulling the trigger and asking for their release if things don't change quickly.

This isn't about playing time or injuries or winning or losing. this is strictly about how these kids are being treated and spoken to. These aren't the thugs of the past. these are bright kids that understand the game and know how to win ball games but they don't tolerate being treated poorly for no reason other than someone power tripping and trying to show them who the boss is for no apparent reason.

This all truly saddens me. I thought we had big things happening on this team but it's being torn apart by the very people that should be leading it. It's a complete mystery to me.

There I still time to reverse this but we will have to see what Burton and company decide to do....
