This 2021 team is SPOOKY good

Players and coaches have been playing their hearts out.

Nothing about this team stood out pre season, but I think these guys are at least on par with the 2010 team and almost as good as the 2016 team (I still think that was our best fielded team ever, that semi finals was a tragedy).

These guys and go the distance and have 3 in a row at home + a bye. Playing tight the rest of the season guarantees a 2 seed and home field advantage, they know not to take anything for granted and I’m believing big time.

We can all hope this team is spooky good. We're gonna have to answer some tough questions over the next few weeks. Idaho always plays their best game of the season against us. They aren't the most talented team, but they are terrible either. Expect them to play us as hard as any team. Get past this one, and things set yup well, but each game gets a little more difficult as we move on.

Agreed. I think this is the best team since 2010, and may end up being the best team we have ever fielded. 2nd half of Western Illinois was an adoration on defense, I believe he in our D. To me what has always been the downfall of the defense in the playoffs is other teams being to run it down our throats, and I don’t see that happening with this team. Our offense is ridiculous and can score points on any team. Only real weak spot that worries me is our kicking game, that could bite us in a close game.

I think the 2016 team was probably the best team we’ve ever fielded, although it’s debatable. The 2013 team was also damned good. Interestingly, the 2010 team wasn’t particularly flashy…they were just balanced all-around.

We’ll see what we can do in these remaining games. Frankly, it’s a gauntlet and if we get through this 5 game stretch going 4-1 or 3-2 that’s be a pretty damned good showing. Idaho’s going to play us tight - I expect another Montana type game from them. Weber, Davis, and MSU…no joke. MSU might actually be the 2nd best team in the Big Sky.

It’s all going to boil down to staying relatively healthy and getting a few key players back. As productive as the offense was yesterday it wasn’t quite as explosive without Limu-Jones, Roberson, etc. We were missing the big, over the top threat that makes this offense so dangerous. Against a UNC it didn’t really matter but we’re going to need those guys back going forward.

A bye week would be really helpful right now. A lot is staked on how well the trainers can get guys off the table and back on the field. Our receiving corps, which played pretty well yesterday, is down four guys. I don't think any of those are serious, but we've all seen how long smallish injuries can keep guys out at Eastern.

I like the philosophy being preached be the coaches. The entire season rides on this game. And when it's over? The entire season hinges on the next week. The reality is a loss to Idaho would be devastating, because it would be really hard to regroup before playing Weber State. 1-0 each and every week.

Idaho is playing better now, and I'm sure they think they have our number. We were atrocious against them twice in the Spring. For whatever reason, they seem able to exploit our weaknesses.

To me key is healthy players. We've had really good teams in the past utterly decimated by injury that took our seasons away from it's potential. The bye after Weber is perfect. Having home field advantage is key to deep runs so higher the seed the better % to advance. Now luck plays a role, meaning a call here and there that goes our way, a nice spot that maybe we didn't deserve, a fluke fumble or a weird tip that goes in our favor or some unforeseen variable that can make that difference.
We have a long way to go and a tough schedule ahead but if the stars align this can be one of those special seasons.

I still don't trust EWU's defense. Not a gimme game until PSU. It's a big IF, but IF they win out, they won't have to play a round playoff game. Their next (4) games are all losable. Schedule doesn't get easy until the last week of the season. Good news is this seems to be a down year for Weber State. Also, if Montana continues to win that helps EWUs seeding with strength of schedule.

vs Idaho
vs Weber - who EWU hasn't defeated since 2015
BYE
vs Mont State
@UC Davis
@ PSU

I went to the roster page and pulled up the 2010 Championship team and thought as I scanned the players; how does it get any better than this? Sherrit, Kaufman, Bo Levi, Johnson, Calcote, TJ Lee, Renard Williams, Tiawan Jones, Herd, Edwards..... I mean DAMN, that team was stacked and thought when compared to today's team with the ten 6th and 5th year seniors who all came back to complete the mission; they are both VERY similar teams. EB3 is a bigger threat than Bo was albeit the WR's may be underperforming the 2010 team a little. I'd say the talent is there though and the way the TE's stepped up at No. Colo. is a bright spot. The DL is playing great and despite the loss of Ojoh, Sendlebach and the rest are putting in yeoman performances week in and out. It's going to take more than we've seen from this team to finish with a National Championship, just like it took in 2010 but all the pieces and parts are there. Most importantly, like 2010; there is the desire and heart.

https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/football/fcs/fcs-coaches-poll

andddd Stats has EWU#2 https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/football/fcs/stats-perform-fcs-top-25

Same place as coaches poll...did get some #1 votes looks like.

So, when was last time #2? 2018 year?

Good catch. Is it weird that SHSU is in the WAC now? Keeler just keeps rolling on. Dude has been around since the 80's coaching. Apparently only HC to win Natty at two different schools at the 1-AA/FCS level. Hope the Eagles aren't reading their press clippings :D
