This game will tell

I figure this weeks game vs. Southern Utah will tell if Sears will be back. Do not see them coming back after 1-3 start and 1-2 home stand. If they win, they stay alive. This week starts Conference

I'm not sure if this game will or should be the final straw. I do think there will have to be compelling improvement and success the rest of the way to earn a extension. Hard to get a feel on how good any of the Big Sky teams are at this point. Weber and Southern Utah seem to be the most consistent so far.
We will know a lot more after this weekend.

Congratulations to the long time coach of NAU who is retiring. He has been the best coach in terms of wins and many other things in the Big Sky Admire him very much.

Sac State does need to come out prepared and win against Southern Utah. 6 home games. 7,800 at the first game . 8,300 last week.

Cannot recall a season when we had more home games then away.

Need to win this Saturday.

Get it all together and be the good team that you are.

Go Hornets

and

Stingers UP

I'm with you, let's go Hornets! This is an improved football team. Want to see them succeed

Who knows what the final straw will be (or if Orr has one since Sears’ is in the final year of his contract) but the Hornets are likely staring at a 1-4 record heading into the bye week. The schedule is more favorable in the 2nd half of the season with a 3 game home/road split against teams that haven’t looked very strong as of this week. However this team won’t win them all so even if the Hornets win every home game (Sears hasn’t won a road game since 2014) it’s still a 4-7 record when it’s all said and done.

Having said that, I don’t think Orr can afford to wait until the end of the season to make his decision on Sears and there is no reason to believe a lackluster 4-7 record convinces him otherwise. Orr probably starts outreach to his preferred candidates before the season ends. Best case scenario is we have a new HC in place by Christmas. :twocents:

1. Southern Utah will win by at least 2 touchdowns
2. Jody Sears will be fired at the end of the season.

Data don’t lie. As a head coach for Weber State (2012-2013) and Sacramento State (2014-2017), Mr. Sears’ winning percentage—to date— is 0.262 (16-45). His best year—2014 (7-5)—was Marshal Sperbeck’s team. The other four seasons; he had 2 win seasons.

Barring a MAJOR MIRCILE finish the rest of the way I'm sure both Sears and Orr realize there will be a change. At this point hopefully both are reaching out to see what other opportunities are out there.
If you go into the final year of a four year contract without an extension offered that in itself is a vote of no confidence.
The new Davis AD did it well in a similar situation last year. Mid season he announced that there would be an "evaluation" of the football program, everyone including Gould knew what that meant. I couple of days after they won the Causeway he pulled the trigger. I'm pretty sure he had contacted Hawkins and others to see if they were interested before he fired Gould.

Again, this game will tell what kind of season it will be.
7-5, 2-9, 2-9. Not cutting it. Win this game then you have a chance for a good season. Puts you at 2-2 and 1-0 in Big Sky. Weber is a really good team. I expect them to be be top 3 conference. They are a playoff team like last season

Let's just hold on minute with Davis. Hawkins is 2-1 with Gould recruits. Same deal! USD is what it is non scholarship FCS and Portland State sucks. So let's wait

I think the football coaching staff was the primary reason Orr was brought on board. He was not brought in to play loser roulette. I figure if we are 1-4 at the bye week Sears will be out, giving an Interim HC the chance to stabilize the team. A new search will begin but not wrap up until after the season end.

Especially with new early signing period in December. Hires need to happen much faster

I'll be the first to give some credit to Lawanson as the DC. He has the team playing with confidence and it appears that with Parker gone, the backs are playing well. The Oline even looked better last night, opening some nice holes for the backs. Let's see if they can keep the momentum going next week at EW.

Glad to be wrong about my score prediction. I had watched SUU play Oregon and the Thunderbird's qb was impressive, plus their takedown of Northern Iowa last week didn't give me much hope for last night. Hornets played so well on both sides of the ball don't know if SUU's starter, if he had played, would have made a difference. I like football with dominant line play and defense, and was impressed with the running game and the job the o-line did. Getting the turnovers has been huge too.

Hopefully, we are seeing the impacts of Wulff develop the offensive line and running game. His EWU teams with RB Jesse James Chatman running all over Big Sky competition was fun to watch.
