NAU Freshman QB Case Cookus goes 28-38 for 353 and 4 touchdowns yesterday against Weber. On the season, Cookus has 19 touchdowns against just 3 picks and is completing 68% of his passes. The Jacks also have a solid running back in Casey Jahn to provide balance.

Since their fiasco against SDSU, Southern Utah has outscored their last 5 opponents 207-16. That's right, they're giving up just 3.2 points per game over that stretch and have yielded exactly one touchdown...in five games!

Montana Sophomore QB, Mackena Simis passes for 321 yards and 6 touchdowns against UND. Montana's D is really good with perhaps the best player in the conference in Tyrone Holmes. If the Griz have truly found a QB they are dangerous.

Portland State is a really good football team. Cal Poly is the most talented 2-5 team in the country.

Glad we duck the Tbirds but this home stretch ain't gonna be easy. Very interesting conference this year.

In my opinion, Montana more issues, besides QB, is the inability to block people and rb falls on first contact. Just off the top of my head.

Portland st, is playing better as a team right now. We're going to have our hands full

Montana had a good game, but they faced an absolutely atrocious secondary yesterday. The main issue I see with the Griz are poor O-Line play and lack of a dominant running back. They are very poor in the red zone where they can stretch the field. Since their first game I watched, I knew that was going to be an issue for them. Most of their RB's are small, speedy guys...no real bruisers like they've had in the past.

I watched a little of Southern Utah's game and Portland State's game. I thought Southern Utah was more impressive, although it's a little hard to tell because UC Davis is just abyssmal.

The funny thing is SUU doesn't look like they have enormous talent on D, but my God do they get after it. They just plug the gaps and drop guys on first contact. They are perfectly technically sound. They also have the most favorable conference schedule to navigate.

I have no explanation for the Southern Utah / South Dakota State game or the Portland State / North Dakota game. It's almost like a horse race that just has a freaky result where a no-hoper runs down three great horses after a speed duel. You just have to draw a line through it as though it didn't happen, because it defies all logic and reason.

There's a WHOLE lot of football to be played in the next couple of weeks that will determine the contenders from the pretenders.
God I love this time of year!!
