Thoughts from football practice today

--Michael Sanders is struggling to catch the shotgun snap and get the ball out of his hands quickly. Tanner Gueller, by contrast, is looking pretty sharp.
--True freshmen RB Ty Flanagan and WR Chris Reynolds may still redshirt, but they certainly look like they can contribute right now. Reynolds had a nice catch and run for a TD today.
--ISU is waiting on the NCAA to determine if Jon Rhyheem People will be eligible this season, but he looks like he's in good enough shape to contribute this year if so.
--They are waiting on medical info to determine if Mario Jenkins will be back, and if so, when.
--true freshman LB Mason Jackson has some athleticism. If Jenkins is out for any length of time, he may get to show it this season,
--Nikko Hayes displayed his speed at his new safety position today, with a nice recovery to bat down a pass. He should provide more depth in the secondary and on special teams.
--WR Broc Malcom really struggled to catch the football today; he had three or four drops.
--Nevada transfer Lonell Woodhouse has moved from RB to linebacker and he flashed some good quickness in pass rush drills today, as did true freshman DL Rasheed Williams.

Skippy, I saw the same thing. that ball is not getting out of his hands fast enough. also it looks like he is waiting for WR to get open and he's not throwing them open. hope he picks up the pace.

I am of the opinion that these are concentration issues as Sanders learns the offense. I would bet that he is still thinking about things as he learns the system and adjust to the pace of the offense. What are they--five practices in? I guess time will tell.

Highlights from this morning:

Saw some nice timing throws here...not in individual one on ones, not in 7 on 7 but in team drills.

It has been a while since we have had some arms in the system as back ups. I think that Sanders will pull ahead of the pack but watch out for Gueller and Kvinsland (kid will be a great qb). Nice problem to have. They all have some big arms for sure!
