Thoughts on Paul Peterson as an OC?

Hey Guys, I'm a BYU fan who is curious about Paul Peterson. His name is getting thrown around as a candidate for the BYU Offensive Coordinator position. Most of us are familiar with his resume, but we aren't really familiar with his scheme, play calling, leadership skills, etc. Could you give me a breakdown on what his offense looked like at Sac State and what you though of him as an OC?

First year was good, then his schemes became woefully predictable and stale. The players didn’t seem to thrive as our offensive numbers went down year after year while he was here.

Seems like a nice, wholesome fellow otherwise.

Ran an uptempo/spread offense and his teams put up some good numbers. Offense didn't really seem physical to me and never really featured the RB's to my liking. When it was running hot, it was good. When it was struggling, it was bad and it put a lot of pressure on its own defense.

GCM and PH pretty much covered it. I've felt that Peterson's offenses never matched their full potential while he was here, and that is squarely on his shoulders. To Peterson's credit, he has developed some QBs that put up video game numbers both at Southern Utah (Sorensen) and Sac State (Safron). Safron was a walk-on with tremendous athletic ability.

Having said that, I would think BYU would be able to bring on a much more qualified OC...kinda tells me the Indy thing isn't really working out for your guys if Peterson is on your short list. Good luck with your OC search.
