We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.

Tinkle to OSU??

Yep. It's been announced on bleacher report and a few other places now. Tinkle is the new HC at OSU.

With the rumors of players leaving (which turned out to be DeShields and Emerson) all done with now we get to start wondering if any players or commits will bail. Hopefully not!

That and we get to wonder who our great (gag) president will pick as the new HC. He'd better not #$@& this up

This is bad news for the entire Big Sky. Tinkle was the best coach in the conference. To me OSU is one of the toughest gigs in the Pac 12. I hope he has success, history says he likely wont. The Montana - Weber rivalry has been epic the last five years. I will miss that.

Ya, just saw on ESPN that Tinkle is off to OSU. Definitely a loss for the Big Sky. Sorry to see him leave. OSU is a HUGE challenge. Tough place to win basketball games. A football school with little history of success in basketball, behind the times facilities, in the shadow of the Oregon Ducks and all their Nike money and a tough place to recruit to. It's a dead end job in my opinion. But maybe Tinkle can the it around.

I can't help but think that if Tinkle has the job that Randy Rahe was contacted about this job. Happy that we still have Coach Rahe!!!

Hopefully Montana can hire someone good at this late stage. We need strong teams in the Big Sky and lately, other than Weber, Montana has been the only school consistently good.

I wonder if UM will try to poach Evans out of ISU?

Maybe they have an assistant that can be promoted?

Or, maybe they will go to the JC ranks like they did before?

At any rate, I'm sure that they will get somebody good. :thumb:

If Montana doesn't lose all of their recruits, this may prove to be a good time to swap out coaches. The incoming coach will have all summer to evaluate and recruit players to sign in the fall. If any more players leave, it could be a tough year for them coming up. This probably will change everyone's predictions for next years finish. I know that it drops them down a notch or two in my book. :coffee:

Too many unknowns. :shocking:

The top choice of eGriz right now is Travis DeCuire (former PG for the Griz and assistant coach at Cal). After Montgomery retired at Cal the new HC brought in his own assistants so DeCuire wasn't kept. He was also a finalist for the OSU job that Tinkle got. Really hoping he's interested in the Montana job!

Freddie Owens (assistant at OSU and former Griz assistant) is another one that'd be a great hire I think. And of course there are a couple on staff (Rupp and Metzger-Jones) that we all wouldn't mind seeing as our new HC either.

Hope we have a list of possible candidates soon... that will tell us a lot about whether or not the powers that be are going to screw this up horribly or not.

Potomac;

I don't think you have much to fear. It seems that Montana has always had top coaches. With the facilities and the support of the community, it should be a desirable destination for a lot of coaches. However the first year there, for any coach, might be a little rocky. You probably should go into this season with lowered expectations. Any coach can struggle until they get the right pieces to fit their philosophy. Even with the departures, UM has a solid group coming back, as long as there are no more departures. At this point, when a good hire is made, the Griz should be right back on track. Watch out though, it looks like MSU is about to start turning their fortunes around as well. :coffee:
