Too Many 3's?

We were 11-42 on 3's tonight for 26.2%, while we were 14-17 for 82% from the Free throw line. Wonder how we will respond next game? Drive the lane more? Get it inside? Man that's a lot of 3's....I trust Hayford will get the guys ready for BSC play.

26% on 42 three point attempts, but 18-34 inside the three point line, and we really need to ask the question if 42 is too many??? And our point guard goes 1-11 from the three point line! We allow UTAH VALLEY for christsakes (not the Utah Jazz) to shoot 51% and 40% from three, while we shoot 38%. This is disgusting basketball. But, hey, we can beat our chests and brag about only committing 6 turnovers!

I hate to say this (and NEVER thought I would say it), but I am considering cheering for that team in Spokane. At least they play the game the right way...play defense, pass the ball, try to get high percentage shots.

Disappointing to lose but if our shots fell it would have been a totally different result. This team is learning with every game and indications are they are getting stronger. We always knew these road games were there to gain experience and see what works and what doesn't. Personally I wouldn't want the team to have an easy ride in the out of conference games. There have been flashes of truly remarksble play. 3 point percentages need work for sure and that can be worked on :) Hayford said all this team needs is experience.I think it is all going according to plan and wouldn't be changing my team just yet. Go eags :thumb:

I think we need to shoot more threes! That is our style so get used to it. Every three point record will be broken this year. The best defense is a good offense. I agree that shots haven't fallen, over four games, but when they do it will be something to see. I also think the Kelly kid should be playing more.

All that being said we should have won last nite. I have never even heard of that school! Another game we should win is today, another school I've never heard of. We have the talen, no question. Coach just needs to figure it out.

Man...disappointing loss last night. I think this team has the talent, but they need to figure it out. We should not be losing to a team like Utah Valley State? We need to beat SC upstate today....I though we had a chance to win 20 games this year because we should dominate these types of teams....ugh.

I'm sure they will turn it around, its just a matter of when, hopefully before conference season begins.

Don't get me wrong, I truly AM excited for this season and the ones to come. I can't wait for the home opener. Our boys CAN shoot, I've seen it first hand. Lets win tonight and get off the schnied. :thumb:

When a QB is struggling to complete passes they usually shorten up the game so he can get into rythm, then stretch the field after he gets going. How does a team go 3-17 without changing something up to stop the bleeding?

Sounds like Hayford understands the issue:

“We have to be able to handle freedom in our offense a little bit better,” said Hayford. “You want shooters to have confidence that the next one is going in, but we could have used a little bit better discretion.”

It's a fine line because you want to inspire confidence in your guys, and let them play to the fullest of their abilities. On the other side, that was a pretty bad performance last night, especially when Jois/Seiferth were a combined 11/15 from the floor. The guards just have to be smarter work the ball inside rather than just chucking 3s.
