Touchdown Gimmick

At Oregon, they blast something---I don't know what it is---but it sounds like a blast from a steamship smokestack whenever they score a touchdown or a field goal. I believe at Washington (and at other venues), a siren is cranked whenever a TD or FG is made. Someone also mentioned perhaps several school's ROTC programs firing off canon blanks as their traditional response to a score. /users/31/07/37/smiles/17505923.gif

What kind of Touchdown Gimmick would be suitable for Portland State? A blast of the Viking horn seems appropriate. Are we doing that now? Is there anything with which we could augment the Viking horn? I remember someone fired off an M-80 after the win that sent us to Florence, Alabama to face Troy State for the D-II Title. That blast was great! It'd be great to get a great blast from the Viking horn and then some kind of explosive blast from something that sounds like an M-80 ... maybe canon blanks would be the answer.

PSU has fired cannons and a viking horn over the PA system in the past. I think we have even had fireworks in the past??? Not entirely sure about that one though. So worry not the bases are covered.

The cannon is pretty neat. Loud and to the point.

I wonder how long it took folks up in the west hills that don't follow PSU athletics to figure out what the loud blast within city limits was for. ;-)
