Transfer portal time

Read his twitter account and just got the feeling he wanted to be the starter and ISU may have offered it to him. He mentioned "I'm home". Can't count the times during the season why he wasn't playing more. Think he was injured some but personally thought he was pretty darn good and should have touched the ball more. my two cents

I was talking to what I can only guess is Justice Jackson's mom, Ruthie Jackson, in an Eastern Athletics facebook group comments. She shared that players are leaving not because they are losing games but because they don't feel heard or that their input is being valued. I think this aspect we don't see that could account for players being so demoralized on the field. I would post some screen shots of the comments but I'm lazy.

Maybe Justice wanted more input on what was going on the field where as Tuna just shut up an did what he what he was told which is why he might have got more playtime. Just speculation though. Maybe Best is just toxic and has a "my way or the highway" type attitude towards head coaching. It would certainly be consistent with the post on this forum from a former player and the mid season parting of ways with former OC Shoemaker. I know football is similar to the military in that they both have a, "do as you're told" attitude but a good head coach would make it seem like players input is heard and valued.

We may look down on Idaho State but that team played with way more energy then Eastern did in our game this year. They could have given up after being down 3 TDs but they rallied back and won. Cody Hawkins, Dan Hawkins son for those who don't know, seems to be turning that program and the culture around. I almost wish we were able to pick him up instead of ISU.

Anyway I would ask is that fans like us should look into why players are leaving, not just assume its because of money or players aren't loyal anymore or whatever. It is a big decision that isn't taken lightly. These kids decide to leave a school and program they have been at for years, where they have friends, where they have established themselves in the depth chart on the team to go to a completely new school, in a new town, with new players and new coaches and have to completely start over again and compete for playtime against players who probably don't want the added competition. And there is a really good chance it will not work out, they will not get much play time and they will not get looks from the NFL or other leagues.

Have we picked any players off the portal that could contribute right way? Especially D-line. I would like to see more mean and nasty on D

Whatever, only Vandy is a noticeable upgrade. Now he has to compete against SEC talent for playtime.

Not sure it worked out well for ol' Freddie.

lolwut?! U mad, bro?

I'm glad to see Eastern's staff has identified the DL as an area where we can make a lot of progress. The last couple of guys added through the portal are DLs, and both appear to be a massive upgrade.

Gabe Johnson seems more OLB size. I think Sanders is moving the defense to more of a 3-4 scheme since hes a LBs coach and the new coach hire is a OLB coach.

See we didn't get much reaction on a punter. :D May be this new transfer will:

Dishawn Misa - 6'3" 234 LB - transfer Boise State - was a 4 star recruit out of high school. coming in as a RS SO

HIGH SCHOOL CAREER
Four-star recruit per 247Sports and ESPN…three-star recruit per Rivals…rated No. 5 at his position nationally per ESPN…rated as the No. 3 prospect in the state of Washington per ESPN, and No. 5 per 247Sports…during his freshman campaign, recorded 39 tackles, including three for-loss and a blocked punt…added 54 tackles, 1.0 TFL and forced a fumble as a sophomore…earned Sophomore All-America honors from MaxPreps…selected to play in the 2022 Polynesian Bowl.

Well when Best smiled after saying there were 5 spots to be filled...this was one of the spots he was talking about. May have have the last but perhaps saved the best for last.

We needed help at linebacker, defensive end, and kicker. Hopefully we got it. I'm intrigued about seeing a 6'3" 250 pound kicker on the field.

You know I checked and if I read it correctly Landon Ogles last year was listed as a punter but didn't play in any games??? EagSpectator and others, thx for providing this info. Why doesn't the school provide fans with any info with these things?

Ogles spent 2 years at PALOMAR COLLEGE out of San Marcos, CA. His longest was a 57 yard FG. Consistent with putting the ball in the end zone on kickoffs.

Zornes65...do you know if Ogles will punt? Like the thought of putting kickoffs into the endzone. Wonder why he didn't play last year? No big deal just wondering what the plan is for him.

I have attached his stats from his days at Palomar. I think the plan for him and the others is have them compete for both positions. What I saw at the spring game we definitely needed more of the K & Ps.
