Tu'u Afu makes Hero Sports Top 40 Recruit Ranking in Big Sky

I saw this link today for a ranking of the Top 40 recruits for 2018 in Big Sky Conference

ISU signinee Tu'u Afu at running back comes in as the #23 ranked recruit for the Big Sky Conference.

The two teams from our conference who DID NOT land a player on the top 40 recruit list are Portland State (which makes me happy that PSU is in this category) and Northern Arizona.

One thing that caught my attention is I wonder why University of Idaho is not in this list because I thought they were now a Big Sky Conference team starting in 2018 and I thought North Dakota was no longer a Big Sky Conf. team for 2018. I guess maybe this ranking either didn't think U of Idaho had any top 40 players or they think U of Idaho is still a FBS team.
 
No. Dakota is transitioning out of the BSC. They aren't eligible for the championship but they are still considered a member until after (I think) the 2019 season.

Can't explain Idaho unless it has something to do with the fact that they have a few years to transition down to the appropriate FCS scholarship level.

here are the Big Sky teams that had there 2018 recruiting classes in the Top 50 nationally ranked by Hero Sports

Northern Colorado #49
Montana #31
Weber State #19
UC Davis #17
Southern Utah #13
Eastern Washington #10
Montana State #3
 
I think we made some strides this year with recruiting, but this shows we still have a long ways to go to keep up with the top programs. Not getting the "top" high school players makes developing them once they get on campus even more important. I have heard the off-season program is much improved with this staff. The problem is all the good programs are working hard and improving during the off-season so we have to be able to find those diamond in the rough guys until we can recruit higher level players out of High School. Win, Invest in facilities/program, fan support, and continuity in the coaching staff all must improve to take the next step.
 
Idaho will be with-in the scholarship limits for next season and will be eligible for the play-offs. Not sure why they would not be included in this list because this class is their first FCS class.

They lost all those guys in one season? Wow...they must have run some off. Because they had an FBS number of scholarship athletes last year.

My guess is they split up scholarships and academic money among the remaining athletes. You can still haves 85 kids in FCS, but only 63 equivalents. A few kids are leaving the program, which happens every year. Petrino is quoted in the CDA paper as saying academic money was more important this recruiting season.
 
I love the caliber of athletes the staff has been recruiting at running back!
Which poses a problem (the best problem to have) who gets the rock?
We already have 2 great backs....
Spring ball just got a lot more interesting
