tv's affect on attendance

I wonder how much affect does tv at weber have on attendance. The first home game (UNC) was telivised and there were 3000 less attending compared to the second home game (CAL DAVIS) which was not telivised. will this saturday's game, on Altitude, keep people home? I have to admit that I have stayed home for weber's home games are on tv a few times. Any thoughts?

There's no place like the stadium...TV or not. It's impossible to create the atmosphere in your living room. I love it at Stewart Stadium rain snow, sleet or shine baby....GOOOOOOOOOO WILDCATS!

yea but, with tv you get replays and play by play announcers. I think attendance is definately affected. and the exposure is priceless. so I guess its a trade-off. also, tv's good for recruiting new Stew fans.

I will fight to the bone on this subject. I don't care what the box score says, there is NO way that there were 3000 less people at the UNC game. I will debate the 7,200 number they pulled out of a hat forever.

Why would they falsify attendance figures? if anything you'd think theyed inflate it.

Because I see no way in which they count students attending the games. They don't swipe their Wildcards like they do in basketball. They don't have any turnstiles or people counting as people are entering the stadium. I think they're only counting tickets sold. I think it comes down to not caring and sheer laziness.

There was a larger crowd at the Davis Game, but not by 3,000. Those figures are really just estimates. Sometimes they will try to count every soul, but it is nearly impossible. The attendance for the UNC game was probably closer to 9,000. For both games, it was great to see as many students as there were. The culture is beginning to change at WSU and I hope the trend continues.

Have you heard of Tivo, or DVR? Go to the damn game and just record it on your tv so you get the best of both worlds.

If wsu gave out any free tkts those wouldn't be counted. not counting the students is obviously going to throw it off. i have heard some say the usher just looked at their tkt and didn't tear off the stub. on the season tkts there is no stub to tear off. but those tkts are accounted for regardless of who shows up. basketball should be fairly accurate but i agree there is no way the fball games are accurate.

Tv does have an effect, an example would be like my dad who would rather not go to a Jazz game cause he can watch all of them on tv and get "instant replay" (instant-replay is over-rated unless you can challenge and in the FCS you cant). Me personally I would rather go to the game and cheer for my team in person.

ITS WAY MORE FUN

It doesn't matter if the game is or isn't on tv. Come to the game, especially tomorrow's with us and cheer on your team. This team needs us.

TV + winning on TV builds the brand. slightly lower crowd numbers in the sort term, sold out games in the long run.
