ISU released its official two-deeps for the opener, and here are some observations:

--On just the offensive and defensive two-deeps (no special teams), there are 19 Idahoans, including 7 starters. There should be plenty of "friends and family" in the stands this fall.
--Surprises: true freshman Demonte Horton from Nampa, Skyview worked his way through a crowded field of experienced receivers onto the two-deeps. At 6-3, 205, he certainly looks the part. He'll back up junior Mitch Gueller, one of the best receivers in the conference.
True freshman Jon Herrin, 6-4, 251, from Downey, Calif. will backup Jacob Molenaar at one guard position. It's rare that a true freshman comes in with the physical maturity to earn a spot on the two-deeps.
Redshirt freshman Jack Tufono will get the start at tackle, beating out junior Garrett Smith.
Redshirt freshman Aren Manu from Highland High School beat out junior college transfer Nick Wadsworth for a starting LB spot.
True freshman Campbell Sheidow won the place kicker competition over returner Parker Johnson.
Other two-deep notes: Idaho State is still a very young team, starting only two seniors on offense (QB Tanner Gueller and RB James Madison), and five on defense (DT Trevon Aloi, LBs Joe Martin, Christian Holland, and Paea Moala, and DB Anthony Ricks).
ISU's specialists will be young -- both Sheidow and punter Kevin Ryan are true freshmen. Long snapper Ryan Gray and holder Mike Goggin are also in their first seasons in those roles. Gotta think special teams coach David Fiefia is having a few sleepless nights heading into Friday's opener.
