EDWARD C.K. LI
POCATELLO — Edward C. K. Li passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, January 23, 2012, at the Pocatello Care and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on January 2, 1931, in Shanghai, China, to Peter K. C. Li and Mary Chen Li. He was the baby of four children, Nancy, Jack, Lily then Ed. They moved to Beijing during World War II. In the late 1950s, the family moved to Taiwan and then settled in Hong Kong. Ed graduated from high school in Hong Kong and then studied at the Chinese University in Hong Kong for two years. Ed immigrated to the United States in 1959, where he attended Idaho State University and retired as a draftsman for Idaho State University physical plant.

He married Louisa Binning and was later divorced.

He was active in Civitan for many years. He also volunteered at the Simplot Games from the very beginning 34 years ago. This will be the first year he won't be attending. Ed loved volunteering and serving his community.

In 1995, he met Quan Hong at the Gate City Baptist Church and they fell in love. They were married on June 21, 1997. His sister, Lily said, “Ed, you are one lucky stiff” when he married Quan and inherited his instant family of Quan's children, Suzanne Johnson (Rod) with their sons, Phil (Carly and baby Beckham), Eric, Jeffrey and Brendon; Phil Hong (Peggy) with their son, Jason (baby Gracie) and daughter Nikole; Yvonne Horner (Richard) and sons, Joseph (Rachelle and children, Grace and Elijah), Spencer (Makinna), and daughter Moriah; and Todd Hong (Lisa) and daughter Kelsey (Wade), and sons Zachary and Garrett. He was our second dad and was the only grandpa that many of Quan's grandchildren can remember. He was the gift to our family.

Ed was a great Idaho State Bengal booster where he and Quan loved to attend ISU football games, both the men and women's basketball games and many of the cultural events held at the university.

He enjoyed college sports on TV. His highlight was attending a Utah Jazz game with his grandsons last year. He and Quan went to Fitness and exercised five days a week until he became ill in December.

They got to see many states by accompanying the Richard Horner's on their vacations, from Disney World to Seattle, Washington ! They especially loved visiting his sisters and their families in New York City.

Ed had a great relish for life, every part of it, from taking his daily nap to eating steak, crab and everything else. He had the best smile and the funniest belly laugh. He was never seen without a big smile on his face.

He was a very active member of the Gate City Baptist Church, where he loved attending and learning about the gospel of Christ.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Peter K. C. Li and Mary Chen Li, and his brother, Jack Li. He is survived by his older sisters, Nancy Lorenz (Washington, D.C.), and her children, Amy ,with her children and Nelson, and Lily Wu (New York City) and her children Vivian, Sylvia and Loretta and their children. He is also survived by his wife, Quan and his instant family.

He was also known as grandpa by the loved families of the Chopsticks Café, Lei's Mongolian BBQ, Ming's and other members of the Chinese community.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors in intensive care at the Portneuf Medical Center and all the caring staff at the Pocatello Care and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 27, 2012, at noon in the Gate City Baptist Church, 500 W. Maple, Pocatello. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
