Two MSU Players Arrested & Suspended

Jeff Budinich and Tre Johnson have been suspended from the Montana State men’s basketball program, Bobcat coach Brad Huse announced Tuesday.
Budinich (Maple Valley, Wash.) and Johnson (Reno, Nevada), each junior forwards, will not participate in team-related activities after violating program rules over the weekend.
“Tre and Jeff will not participate in team activities, and that’s really the only comment I can make at this point,” Huse said in a press release. “I’m disappointed that we’re in this situation.”
According to Bozeman police reports, Budinich and Johnson were arrested and charged with two counts each of criminal trespass into a vehicle and theft. At around 1:12 a.m. Sunday, Bozeman police were called to the Cooper Park area for a report of two males shining flashlights into parked vehicles.
An officer found them walking on Alderson Street and spotted a GPS unit sticking out of Johnson’s pocket, according to court documents. When asked if the GPS was his, Johnson told the officer it was not. Budinich agreed to talk to police and admitted that he and Johnson had entered two parked vehicles and had stolen items from inside them. They were both taken to the Gallatin County Detention Center and held on $1,820 bond each. They have since been released. Both have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Johnson was fourth on the team in scoring (9.0 points), first in rebounds (6.2) and second in blocks (1.1) while starting 20 of 26 games played last winter. He had two double-doubles and led the team in scoring four times, rebounds eight times and blocks three times.
Budinich averaged 4.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per game in 25 games. He led the team in scoring once (against rival Montana) and scored 69 of 116 points from 3-point range, hitting 22 triples through the year.
When pressed for further information, Huse said “(MSU Assistant AD of Media Relations Bill Lamberty) just sent a release out. That will constitute the comments for now.”

I'll bet that they pay restitution (donated by a booster) and are reinstated within a months time. Montana is a wild, wild place, my freinds.

Rape becomes 'non consensual sex' and felony burglery becomes 'misdemeanor trespass'. It's all kind of commical, in a way. :yikes:

They should be kicked out of school just for being stupid. You jeopardize your scholarship to break into parked cars and steal GPS units? What are those things worth, like $50. Hard to understand the stupidity of some people.

Makes sense now why Rahe passed on Johnson. Seems perfect for Huse. A kid that has little character. How can you be caught stealing and then claim no guilt? Interesting place Montana. I agree with you Olds!! Strange things happen all the time up there in the wild north. Maybe because the DOJ, DOE, and NC2A are camped out in Missoula that the full extent of the law will be thrown at these guys. Both should be kicked off the team and made to repay their scholarships.

Huse is losing a fairly decent player in Johnson, but Budinich is kinda a waste. He is similar to Selvig in height, just not good.

Update: "Montana State men’s basketball coach Brad Huse dismissed forward Tre Johnson from his squad and imposed multiple disciplinary sanctions on forward Jeff Budinich"

Honestly, I hope that these young men can get their lives back on track and become contributing members of our society. I don't like to see anyone fall this way. It sounds like Johnson was the instigator, or at least he is taking the fall. At any rate, it hurts us all when something like this happens. Almost all schools have or will have something like this happen to them. We are, after all, dealing with young people who may not have learned all of life's lessons yet. We've been picking on the Montanas because they have had a lot of trouble lately. However, we should all keep in mind that these kind of things could happen to almost anybody. I just hope that it doesn't happen here any time soon. :coffee:
