I thought I heard Caoch Hayford say the medical staff had released Harvey to play but it is his choice to hold him out. Did anyone else hear that?

I thought I did as well. Basically, I think it's a case of "could he play" and "should he play". If he's not close to 100%, I think it's wise for Hayford to keep him rehabbing. The end game is more important, and as we have seen the past few games, we can still win without him.

totally agree we need him back for the tournament, but I do think it is important to have him for the final few games to get continuity back . . . these guys are playing AWESOME!

There are still a number of tough games on the schedule and every game is important to maintain the hosting privilege afforded the winner of the conference. Tyler will need some time to get back in game shape and rhythm. I don't know anything about his condition but would prefer to see him in limited playing time for now and work back into the full 40 minutes he had been playing.

I was watching Tyler warm up yesterday and his shot still looks amazing. Knocking down everything in warmups. Haford said in his post game comments, "Tyler says he's playing Saturday" against PSU. I'm sure coach has the final decision but that's encouraging to hear. I have a suspicion that he will play but his time will be limited and they will work him back into it like it was stated above. Seems logical to me. All of our games down the stretch are going to be tough. If we win big, it's not because winning is easy. Our guys are playing great right now and I think winning without Tyler has been is a huge confidence builder for the team and the fans. Who you gonna stop? Pick your poison!!!

Great to see Tyler back today. Not sure he's all the way healed up though, but he is a warrior and I appreciate his effort today. He really got us back into the game today hitting 10 for 10 from the free throw line down the stretch. PSU wasn't giving him anything easy. He hit the floor quite a few times when he went to the hole. Got up every time and calmly hit clutch free throws. His shot will start to fall again soon. Best shooter in the nation....

Aw Jeez . . . wouldn't this be one that tops them all?:

Craig Haley - FCS Executive Director
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The leading scorer in Division I men's basketball is a redshirt junior who is on track to graduate from his school in early June.

It's possible that Tyler Harvey could take advantage of the NCAA's graduate student transfer-exception rule to complete his final season of eligibility at another school.

The irony is that Harvey plays at the same school - Eastern Washington University, the first-place team in the Big Sky Conference - that could be the tipping point for change regarding the rule.

The graduate transfer rule has been under scrutiny in the wake of Eastern Washington's star quarterback Vernon Adams Jr., also a redshirt junior expected to earn his undergraduate degree in recreation management after the spring semester, announcing he will leave the Eagles program to play his final season at the University of Oregon later this year, perhaps as the replacement for 2014 Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota.

It's a decision that has ruffled feathers . . . :ohno:

Is there more to Tyler Harvey than the points he scores? He does score a lot of points but he plays a lot of minutes and he shoots A LOT.

He rarely rebounds because his job is to create space in the defense by staying on the perimeter when he doesn't have the ball, and when he has the ball his job is to shoot. On defense he stays with the other teams off ball guard (sometimes the 2 position sometimes the 3 depending on the scheme/personnel) which means he is often the farthest Eagle from the basket when a shot is taken.

He is the #2 PG in the system as well so when Brandon is on the bench he runs the offense... he is good in this role and actually an adept ball handler and distributor, but he scores much less in those games. As for shooting, he's still among the nation's leaders in 3 pt % and FT %. He also does a great job of creating his own shots with quick movements, ball fakes etc.

Defensively he is not bad, but he is capable. His effort is there, but he sometimes seems to be creeping towards the fast break as things happen. He's good at getting in passing lanes and often is in position to make the opposing team pay for turnovers. My biggest concern is I wonder if he has elite quickness on defense.

Beyond that Tyler is an extremely hard worker. Coach said that on top of school, practice, etc he makes 500 shots per day. Not attempts... makes.

So yeah there is a lot more to him than just shooting a lot. Once he starts hitting them again it won't seem bad or egregious as it has his past few games since the quad injury.

Also if you notice last night he had 8 rebounds (the game plan called for attacking the paint more to get SUU in foul trouble per Coach Hayford pregame) and 4 assists which is twice his season average. He shoots a lot, but is not selfish, his shot just isn't falling right now.

IMHO, he played a fantastic game last night, except for being ice cold shooting. He seemed to be all over the place on defense, though only credited with 1 steal. He also committed just one foul and one turnover. That's pretty good as far as taking care of the ball goes.

Hope I answered your question!

Cheers,
Brian

Just read and awesome story on ESPN.COM titled, "Tyler Harvey is College Hoops Best Kept Secret." Just posted today. Great story. Go read it if you get a chance. Made me proud of the kid and how loyal he is to EWU. It talks about how he could transfer and pretty much "pick" his school next year but he appreciates EWU and Haford for believing in him. Perfect type of attitude we need at EWU :thumb: . Love that kid.
