Luther Carr, former Eastern receiver and most recently University of Idaho receivers coach is no longer with the program. Several players with eligibility have also left the program.

Whats this do to our chances at a FCS win?

After a season and all the way to next Fall, coaches/players will leave a program and EWU will be no exception. Clawman, I see no bearing on the outcome one way or another.

The article says "several players have left the program," but it doesn't say who or how many. It could be three walk-ons. It could be 12 players off the 2-deep.

FWIW, I'd say this is a 50/50 game... we have as good a shot as winning as they do. That said, I hate playing in the CrappyDome and the last two times we've opened with Idaho, we've lost.

This game is about as much of a "must-win" as we'll have on our schedule. Win, and I think we're 2-1 going into our first home game... lose and I'd bet we're 0-3.

I don't know the last time we opened with Idaho, but the last time we played them (2003) we beat them in the Kibbie dome 8-5.

Does that mean you have us written off against WSU regardless?! If so, that's a shame. I honestly don't believe that they will be half as good as UW was this year (a team we lost to by three on a longer trip and more hostile atmosphere.) Guess I have to start evangelizing our program to its own fans earlier this year than I did last... :?

If memory serves, we were facing an uncertain season and played two QB's in that game the second of which led us to an 8-3 season, upset of #2 seeded SIU in the playoffs, and eventually went on to win the Payton Award.

Just helping FormerEag out with the evangelism. Testify my brotha!

SIU was ranked #1 in 04 when we beat them. That was a fun game, even though it was raining sideways and cold. We beat #2 ranked McNeese in 07, which was another fun game. Complete curb stomping of their squad. Watching them quit in the middle of the 3rd quarter just made it more fun

I'm getting old as the years are starting to run together. :tothehand:

Did I at least have the right QB?

The last time we played UI in the Kibbie Dome was in 2003. I think Meyer came in the game at some point in the 2nd qtr, but I just remember him throwing the game winning TD and being the starter after that. We didn't make the playoffs in 03, though, and the 8-3 season you're thinking of was in 2004. But yes, you got the QB right! :thumb:

We had a home-home arrangement with Idaho for season-opening games in 1998 and 1999, and they pulverized us both times... 31-14 in the Kibbie Dome in 98 and 41-21 at home in 99. On the flip, I couldn't find the attendance for the 99 game, but I believe it was in that 12,000 or so range; making it one of the better attended Eastern games in history.

We beat Idaho in the game preceding and after in the rivalry, 97 and 03. EWU was scheduled to play Idaho in 2008, but bought out the game in the Spring.

Thats actually kindof impressive. I do think Spokane could and would support EWU if they were IA and we could certainly put up some repsectable attendance numbers too. But the way things are going in IA it almost seems worthless to be IA unless you're in a BCS conference.

There has been talk on the message board of the 03 season opener which EW won 8-5. Eastern hadn't decided on a qb going into the game. Skyler Allen, who had led Pasco to the state championship in high school, and Erik Meyer were fighting for the job, and evidently Allen had a better fall camp because he was the starter for the opener. It wasn't going well for the offense, so Meyer came in, threw the game winning td in the 'baseball score' game, and he was the qb the rest of his very successful EW career. I'm not sure Allen, who I think was Eastern's first commit out of high school and one of their best recruiters after he committed, and a very good athlete and person, ever really was treated fairly at Eastern after the Idaho game, but maybe Obzerver, who was closer to the situation than I, could comment further (He might not want to open any old wounds. Obzerver must also be a good guy, because he is still an Eagle booster, I was surprised Skyler didn't end up at Central.). You know the rest of the story with Meyer, so I guess it would be hard to say Meyer shouldn't have gotten the job?
