UC Doofus dumps their BB coach

Good move on their behalf. He was the only thing holding that program down imo. With solid facilities and a reputable name, there is no excuse for that program to not thrive in the BW. Just goes to show having nice facilities is only part of the equation. :twocents:

Also it’s funny to see he wasn’t fired but “transitioned into an administrative position.” So they will essentially be paying two BB HC’s, one to actually build a program, and the other to occupy an office and sit on his thumbs. When SDSU canned their incompetent football HC Chuck Long, they did something similar and once his contract expired he was gone. I assume this same route is what is taken with Stewart. I guess the money saved in all the legal wrangling involved with a firing is more than the amount outstanding on the contract.

Okay, now that he's been "transitioned"I can put this out there. Their program was struggling, so I didn't want to post anything that might hasten his departure.

I was two-feet from a conversation that Coach Stewart had with Coach Jerome Jenkins in 2007 following a Hornet road victory at UCD in which he made some comments that probably would've ended his tenure much sooner, had they gone public or been recorded.

The conversation was light-hearted at first, transitioning into borderline inappropriate discussion about life and women, and other personal things.

When the conversation turned to basketball, Coach Stewart made some highly disparaging comments about his white players. He trash-talked their skills openly and told Coach Jenkins how he couldn't win with a roster full of white boys. He said that the academic standards at UC Davis made it near impossible for him to recruit the "brothers" he needed to be successful. I interpreted this as a truthful revelation and a jab at CSUS at the same time. Coach Jenkins was visibly uncomfortable with the conversation as there were a couple others around and may have quipped about the improved graduation rate at CSUS before walking away.

Just thought I'd bring that to light for those interested.

I believe he said it and I believe there's some truth to what he said. I'm sure there's a lot of african american kids that would qualify but they likely wouldn't pick Davis. But I think Davis gets some pretty good white kids who can play so I don't quite buy that as an excuse for not winning. I heard AAU DC Assault's coach repeat some interesting comments made by Coach K. I personally heard Tark say some stuff and a former UCLA assistant coach told me how they were outbidded for a player by Michigan. Recruiting is a coaches life line so I don't doubt the things they say. Most of it is hard and most likely true to a large extent.
