UGLY WIN

Wildcat Attack

Active member
PSU played great, their QB did a good job. Our special teams were somewhere, just not on the field.

I'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss, but we can't play like this and continue to think we are going to be on the top of the conference at the end of the season. really.....no pressure from the inside on their QB at all today.....sure need Eastman out there ASAP.

Back to the drawing board.....gotta adjust.

There is no such thing as an ugly win. But, like pretty girls, some are more beautiful than others.
Special teams is really in need of improvement. The defense only gave up 15 points - not bad considering you were playing a Glanville offense at home that put up 68 on WSU last time there.
Offense was fairly good, but the running game was sort of off today.
Need to fix some things or 2-3 conference losses is very likely.
Pack the house next week!

haha....true, defense got lucky i think, more PSU mistakes than our good play, but the 3rd down conversion is pretty impressive i guess. haha

i agree, if we don't change, we'll be looking at 2-3 losses :(

There needs to be more pressure put on the QB!! Where was the DL?? Hubel had all day to make passes, and the secondary... WOW... the allowed some big gains. However, PSU always plays tough in Portland, so just getting a W is enough, but like Waldo said, Weber needs to improve. This is not the team I watched in Ft. Collins.

On another note, TOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNEEEE!!!

You're right, not the same team at CSU......not to be redundant, but no QB pressure....we need EASTMAN #95 back in the lineup ASAP he is healthy....last year he toasted the QB right up the middle......whew.

Good game Toone, and the bottom line....we got the W.

Portland is a good team. And if you all think that winning on the road is automatic, ask the Griz. They had to use OT to beat NAU who beat So Utah last week by only 3 at home. That being said, there is room for improvement, but if Portland were to play the Griz again in a couple of weeks, I think the outcome would be much different!

The Wildcats spent so much time worrying about coming out of the gate fast, that they forgot about playing all 4 quarters, Just because your up 28-10 doesnt mean you can start to relax, we are lucky we didnt play Montana or Eastern this weekend, the Wildcats need to play all 4 quarters every weekend.

Having said that a W is a W and I'll take it anyway we can get it. We are still tied for first, and thats all that matters.

Go Wildcats

I wonder how much the injuries have affected this team? On one side, its great knowing that a bunch of players are getting time and experience, yet, on the other its causing some minor inconsistencies.

BO BOLEN NEEDS MORE TOUCHES! Bottom line. Not a substitute role. dare I say... Split time with Smith?

I agree....results = playing time....no disrespect, but Smith looks a little slower, still runs hard, but maybe he should have been around more during the off season work outs. no need to play politics, just PLAY TO WIN

WTF??? did I miss something here? Are you guys seriously bagging on THE GREATEST running back in WSU history? Maybe the running game misses a guy named Marcus Mailei, I really don't think that is Trevyn's fault.

Point taken in that the team should always come first, but we reduce Tervyn's role at great peril to the team.

Bo is a talented and exciting addition who probably does need more touches, but not at the expense of Trevyn.

Inspired play calling would be more likely to make a difference.

The guy has one off game (a game in which he misses a quarter getting his lip stitched) and you call him out! Just the game before, vs. Idaho St, he had 177 yards rushing and 7 catches for 31 yards. That only earned him conference player of the week. Sounds like "What have you done for me lately?" Bo Bolen is talented, but don't mess with something that has given you 3+ years of record breaking production. Bolen has 3 years left after this one. When Trevyn graduates, then start talking about giving Bolen more touches.

with Tafuna and Bolen and Smith, what would be a good way to get them all involved? all i am saying is that we make adjustments all the time, and what do you think is the best combination to produce wins? with Wilcox out, we're going to adjust the Oline again......and luckily we have some depth this season.

our D is getting better, and there is improvement with the LB's, bottom line is the DL is not getting enough pressure on the QB. too many missed tackles enabling the RB's to get through the line of scrimmage.

just my 2 sense, nothing more.

Good insight on the play calling. Smith is the man, no doubt. But you cannot ignore or sit a guy who explodes for 56 yards on 7 carries when the starting back is clearly struggling. Don't bench Smith, but darn it, find a way to give Bolen some looks I was at the PSU game and that guy changed the game on his first hand off.

While I do agree that Bolen and Tafuna need to be implemented more in the offense it seemed to me that the play calling was very predictable while Smith was in. But while the others were in we seemed to have the ability to keep the defense off balance. That being said Trevyn Smith is by far the most intelligent back in the sky and PSU clearly designed a defensive game plan to stop him which allowed for Higgins to have a stellar day

I think the play calling has been very predictable. PSU knew what was going to happen on the last play of the game, and fortunately for us, the corner went for the pick instead of knocking the ball down. Smith is a great back, but when he's in it seems like there is absolutely no imagination. Trap right, counter left... Nothing that really mixes it up. However, I do think that Tafuna and Bolen need more touches. If a back is doing well, keep using them. By the way, what has happened to pitching it? Running off tackle? Shovel passes? The passing game even seems ho-hum. Is this what we can expect from the new OC?

How is it that PSU almost beat us? I thought we'd win by 21 at least. I missed the game (was moving). I listened to the last 4 minutes and then with 30 seconds to go my radio faded out as I drove up the canyon.

What is the latest on injuries, is that why we didnt smoke the Viks?

Any word on the running game? I see Smith had just 30 yrds. Is PSU's run D good?

Its been like this for a few games now. The play calling gets a little more gutsy in the second half. First play of the third quarter we go play action and go deep. Incomplete but it was a good thought. seems like we're slowly moving out of the run-run-pass mode. Maybe Hammer is getting more comfortable.
