UI Home Game Thursday

UI is coming to town after a close, 96-93 loss at EWU. They are led by hot shooting PG, Dixon #3. He leads the BSC in scoring and is shooting 47% from the field and 90% from the FT line. He gets to the line a lot and leads in that category as well. He isn't big, but he is fast and quick. They also have some talent on the wings that will need to be accounted for. They have two big men that split time and both are strong around the rim. They have not won a BSC game yet, have only one win agaist D1 competition, but have the talent to win against anyone in the BSC on a good night.

I expect them to play small from time to time and I expect we will do the same. I think there is a strong chance that we will see a new starting lineup for this game.

UI will play a little zone now and again. I don't expect us to do that, unless it is some sort of trapping zone or zone press.

I expect a good, hard fought BSC game. Should be fun. :coffee:

Very sloppy game, but happy to get the win. I guess its not a bad thing when you play like crap and still win by 10 points, but Weber should in all honestly beat the Idaho Spray Painters by over 20, but it is what it is. I did notice we were missing several guys on the bench. I didn't see Kozak, Tew, or Nzekwesi. I was happy to see Basset get the start. He had a hard time on offense, but he is clearly our best big man as far as defense goes. I would love to see him get the bulk of the minutes at the center position and have Tew come off the bench. We were really rusty, but I didn't realize it had been 12 days since our last game. Its going to get busy these next couple weeks. I like that we get to beat up on the Potatoes back to back next week to get our mojo back before the 3 game road trip. If we go 2-1 on that trip I would feel really good and 3-0 would put us in a great spot to win the BIg Sky. First things first. Beat up on the Pocatello tatter tossers.

Two things: Idaho has improved greatly over last year and since the beginning of this season, and we were down three guys, two are regular contributors, and hadn't played for nearly two weeks. We seemed a little rusty. Both teams played hard. Rebounding was evan. Shooting was evan. This game was all about turnovers and steals. We had 9 TOs to their 19. That is the difference in this game. We had 10 steals, which is tremendous.

I've watched several of UI's games. They are capable of beating anyone in the BSC on any given night. Now we have ISU coming up and they are a similar team in many respects. ISU has steadily improved throughout this season and are also capable of beating anyone. There is not an easy W in the BSC right now. On this next road swing 1-2 would be good, 2-1 great, and 3 Ws would be sensational.

I still think that our team has not hit its peak yet and is on schedule to finish strong. :coffee:

I agree, a bit rusty but played better in the middle 25 minutes of the game (coasted too early down the stretch).

I would love to see Dante as the starter. I would like to see the plus/minus stats on his impact on the game. Not a big offensive threat, but a better defender and rebounder than the other bigs.
Tew is too raw to be effective (give him another year to be truly effective).
Kozak and Carlson are big and slow, not much going to change with them.

We need the Basset Hound!

Those overburdened guys averaging over 30 minutes a game probably really welcomed that 12 day break! Maybe....just maybe.....they won't be totally worn out come conference time!
