Speaking of venues, I think they've a tremendous job with the changes at the DEC. The entrances are nicer from a functional standpoint and the landscaping, steps, and walkways are better and much more attractive. The parking lot layout? That's another story. After recently visiting the Huntsman Center again for the JAZZ Summer League-- which is a nice venue compared to many-- I realized how spoiled I've been to be able to enjoy one of the finest college basketball facilities in the country.

Amen!! The parking lot is a head scratcher; especially when people show up. It takes forever for the Dee to empty and it seems as if there isn't enough parking. No matter, I love what Vice President Tarbox and Jerry have done with the Dee campus. They have really worked hard to beautify the entire area (parking lot, Dee, softball field and field house, and all of the upgrades inside that can and can't be seen). We are definitely spoiled. Even with new facilities at PSU and ones being planned at Idaho and ISU, the Dee is still the queen of the ball. I've heard that there are more longish term plans for that area. Of course Athletics most pressing concern is the North Endzone project and other stadium improvements but I don't think it is past the imagination of our AD that a basketball practice facility will be built at some point in the future.

Don't hold your breath on that ISU arena, it's been three years since that idea has been discussed and I'm told it is dead in the water after one of the two lead donors backed out a couple of years ago. It does look like we'll be going back to the Dome for most conference games, but they are going to reconfigure the seating to try to make it a little more intimate. But there's only so much you can do to hide 6500 empty seats.

ISU should take a page out of UI's book and partner with Simplot to build a vegetable based facility. I wonder how many spuds it takes to build such a thing? Or partner with Sinclair and build a petroleum based arena. Get a coal company, they say that is a money making industry. At least with coal, the trees have been deal for millions of years, you don't have to kill new ones like UI is doing. You would be employing some poor coal miners and making Donnie happy. Think out of the box man.
