I’m sitting here watching UIW get spanked by Nichols State, 20-6 with a couple minutes left in the game. Not sure what to make of it other than UIW may not be as good as originally predicted.
 
Hard to say. UIW was on the road and the Nichols defense looked very, very good.

UIW QB looks shifty so I’ll be interested to see if we’ve improved at all at the LB position. If not that guy’s going to run all over us.
 
Bro we lost to Drake last year. The only reason we salvaged last season and didn't get too embarrassed is the opened the playbook and started throwing the ball downfield. With Visperas and Chism gone we don't even have the tools to do that this year. I like the positivity but I wouldn't not get your hopes up.
 
They played Nicholls last Sat. They lost 20-6 ...their QB threw for 3 int.'s...they were ranked #4 preseason.

Don't have any idea how this depleted Eags team can win at UIW. Best's road record in early contests isn't very good. What I am excited/hopeful for is to see a connection between Taylor, Ulm and Miles. Jared should have been the starter since he transferred a couple of years ago IMO but it's water under the bridge now. It's hard to see all the players on defense and know individually they are reasonably good but mixed together have been collectively awful. Guess we'll see what they do against an athletic UIW today. Missing some special athlete's to make big plays on offense but Taylor can grind out possessions, no TO's and keep the defense off the field then the Eagles have a chance. Would love to see someone step up and lead on the field on both sides of the ball. Could be warm today. GoEags!

Not sure I agree with that. Taylor led a pro style offense and JUCO and prob what he'll be doing here. Ulm and other receivers you tap them they fall down. I don't see many yards after the catch on short screen passes. Could get ugly.
 
I’d have to assume we’ll be run heavy this year. If there’s some positivity to look for, it’s that UIW was hapless offensively last week. I’m sure they’ll be a thousand times better today against our defense, but at least we’re not playing an offensive juggernaut that can score on every possession.
 
sure. if Eags win 4 this year they over achieved. that said, always excited to see excellence, effort and improvement. will be cheering and agonizing with every play either way.

Forgot to mention Visperas had a productive day against Cumberland for Tennessee Tech. They won 65-0 I believe. Did not see any of the game.

I just saw that the UC Davis / Mercer game from last week was declared a no-contest due to a long weather delay. That's too bad because Davis was trouncing them from the little that I saw.

That spread sounds about right to me. I wouldn't expect a lot of big plays downfield from what I've seen of this offense during scrimmages. Also, the UIW Qb didn't do much in the air, either, from what I watched of their game last week. I'd expect sort of a slug-fest in this one with whoever can run the ball effectively getting the W.
