Well, that's one way to win. ;-)
I was really glad to see this team dig down and get a win and it was satisfying to see the team rush the court to celebrate. At 0-3 in conference and with two guys not on the team that were at the beginning of the season, it would probably be pretty easy for this season to spiral downward. Not sure if this will act as a springboard to get some momentum, or if this is just a triple overtime win that we should sit back and enjoy. Time will tell.
Some thoughts...
- Hats off to the Big Cat. 23 big minutes by Cataldo with Kyle on the bench with five fouls. We can't go with five guards and expect to win basketball games, so I think that Cataldo will need quality minutes for the rest of the season for success. That seemed to be the case last night.
- Can we all agree that Marcus Hall should be getting at least ten 3-point attempts per game? 10-13 this weekend from beyond the stripe. Get that guy off some screens and get the rock in his hands.
- Is it me or was Jamar a bit gassed at in overtime? His shots were short and at one point he seemed to be looking to pass rather than shoot. Definitely a different player than in the first half. I guess that's what 54 minutes will do to you.
- Why isn't Gengler a focus point as a shooter when he's actually in the game? Didn't he come here known as a great shooter?
- Is it me or does our offense seem completely anemic at times? There are times where we get up by a couple/few buckets and seem to go into this non-aggressive mode and give up the lead. Not sure if it's our guard heavy lineup where nobody really knows who's running the show or what.
- Montana's kill the clock strategy at the end of regulation seemed to backfire. You see that a lot in sports where coaches seem to try to over coach. I don't see what's wrong with just going with what got you the lead in the first place. Ahh hell, what do I know? It's not like I'll ever be anything other than a below average armchair quarterback. ;-)
- I'm not sure if it was just me, but watching Dave The Horn Guy at halftime made me a bit uncomfortable. How about we just go back to the way it was where people pay a buck to take a halfcourt shot (win a papa murphy's pizza or something and the cash goes towards the pavilion), the band plays Immigrant Song by Zeppelin followed by the fight song and we come out and kick some butt in the second half?
- First win for Geving against Montana. Good to get that monkey off his back.
Onward! How about a couple of road wins now.
