Very interesting read here.

Clearly the fallout from the court issues/animal house shenanigans happening in their athletics program.

I don't believe the decline in enrollment has been affected by the negative press on the football program. IMHO.

It possibly has more to do with UM doesn't have many choices for engineering and computer science unlike MSU which has very strong engineering and comp sci programs. My son's buddy from high school specifically chose MSU for computer science.

Glad EWU widened their Eng programs a few years ago. Fact is schools that produce higher income alumni receive more academic and athletic funding.

Hit it right on the head.

um is not a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) school, MSU is, MSU gets more than half of the MT HS Honors students, Carroll and MT Tech get more than um. there is no future in a lot of the degrees that they offer.

Also, as this article indicates, schools like MSU and EWU have twice as many people working recruiting as does UM.

Also interesting to note in that article is University of Alabama is the fastest growing university in the U.S. Is there any tie to football success in that?
