UM, MSU represent

Good showing as two from the Big Sky make the final 8... even though Montana State did their best to have a second straight first-game playoff exit.

Only one from the Colonial still afloat. And once again, the Southland looks highly suspect as Stony Brook nearly takes out #1 seed Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas gets bombed.

Damn, I think Eastern could've paired off pretty well against any team. Bummer.

The cats have been very mistake prone the last two games. They are overdue to come out and throttle SHSU. The Griz have been improving every week. They look like they are figuring out the offense and the defense is in lock down mode. Combine that with WGS and I see an all Montana semi with the Griz moving on to win it all.

I'll take the Bobcats before the "other" Montana team. I'd start following soccer before I could root for those "other" guys.
It is interesting to compare the development of the Griz this year to our Eagles last year. Like us they just squeaked by a few games and have really improved through out the season.
I still hate the fact that we lost in Msla, we should have on that one.

I will pull for Montana State to represent the Big Sky for the remainder of the season. Outside of them, I will not root for Montana!! I can't talk myself into rooting for our rivals, who's fans as a whole, are a bunch of arrogant a-holes! I know not all of them are, but most of them think their "you know what" don't stink!

Hopefully MSU can get hot and play like they played previous to the last two weeks, although they have a history of choking in the playoffs...

The more time that passes, really makes EWU not being in the playoffs sting that much more because if healthy, this team would have had an excellent chance at a repeat! The other teams this year just don't seem to be as strong as usual.

There is no one, and I mean no one who I would rather have us beat than Montana. That being said, their fans as a whole are absolutely fantastic. Wander into Reds or the Mo Club in Missoula with your eagle gear on and chances are you will not have to pay for many drinks. And I still remember in 1997 when there were more than a few Griz jackets at our playoff games. Wanna beat 'em bad, gotta respect their success.

UM fans can be arrogant (and they are by far the team I like to see EWU beat the most) but we had a good number of them support us last year through the playoffs. It was the same scenario as us this year, hate the fact that we are not in the playoffs, but I would rather see a Big Sky team win than anyone else.

I gained a lot of respect for their fan base last year, if anyone recalls there were quite a few griz fans at Roos during the SEMO and NDSU games last year braving the cold when we didn't have very large crowds, just supporting a big sky team.

I would love to see MSU/UM face each other to go to the chipper next weekend, but both face difficult games this weekend, at least we can watch them this weekend on ESPN. The cats are due to come out firing on all cylinders. The further the Cats/Griz go in the playoffs the better it is for our conference.

I was never offered ANY drinks at Mo Club. :tothehand:

 Agreed about everything else though. :D

As a fan base, they are hard to beat at this level. Most UM fans are pretty friendly, and knowledgable about the game. There are always a few choades in every fan base.

Okay, well spoken from someone who lived right in the middle of their fan base for 6 years, and who's family still lives in the heart of Griz country, I'm telling you that at least half of them think they are the pride of football. Sure, they can jump on the EWU bandwagon for a year when their team isn't in it, but they are right back to being jackwagon's this season. BELIEVE ME!! I've heard it all from many Griz fans about EWU being a one year wonder that didn't even deserve to be National Champs last year! You're all allowed to think what you want about Montana, but I for one will not be rooting for them, ever!

If for no other reason than the fan base, then I refuse to root for them because of their players getting into so many criminal related areas. Have we forgotten that they've had 4 players arrested this season alone!?! Hardly any action was taken against any of these guys from the University. They're all still in uniform right now when "winning" is on the line. It's B.S. and will not pull for a program like that! PERIOD. :ohno:

I will be hoping MSU/UM win and one of them go win it all in Frisco. And EWU is not far removed from having a trouble maker or two(anyone remember the nose tackle, whose brother played in the pro's, who got shot in the head at a gang party and the same year the wr who got caught w/ a gun and some weed in a car going to Spokane?)

Fair points.

I don't remember those so they must have been a while ago. I think every program has some guys get in trouble from time to time, but a lot of it has to do with the type of kids that a program recruits and the environment that the coaches create. It's a fair point that UM has a lot of dudes get in trouble every year, and in my opinion they have set a precedent there by just dishing out a slap on the wrist and then hiring lawyers to "let the legal system run its course". That's a bunch of BS, IMO. Like I said, we have had players get in trouble with the law in the past, but from what I can remember most of those guys got the boot. That doesn't happen at UM, it seems.

That said, I still think most of their fans are pretty good folks, if not a little arrogant from time to time.

I agree on the legal troubles but...

I remember a few years back I was walking with a buddy who is a proud alumni through our tailgates in the upper parking lot. He happened to make the mistake of putting on a Navy blue jacket because it was cold. Unfortunately, we were playing MSU and a group of EWU college kids literally charged out from their party to get in his face and talk smack for being a cat fan. :ohno:

One's take away from that encounter might be that EWU fans are douchebags. But it's obviously anecdotal. Unless you know all 300,000 members of griz nation it's pretty silly to throw them all under the bus based on a few comments from people you probably know trying to get a rise out of you.

But yes, successful programs like Montana Football and GU hoops tend to breed a certain type of arrogance in a few.

All fair points, I just can't root for them. I'll root for the Bobcats to go all the way, but I just can't force myself into rooting for Montana. 8-)

All seriousness, I don't think the thought of Eastern being a one-hit wonder are just from Montana fans. I mean, Jeezus, we win the national championship and come out the next season with four home games and seven roadies. We didn't exactly scream "big time program".

Bobcat fans are worse, IMO.

I agree. At least Montana has actually accomplished something in the modern era. Montana
State still hangs their hat on 1984. And if Eastern was a one-year wonder, Montana State came out the next year and finished 3-8 !!!
