Caught the last 7 mins of the 1st half and the second half. The Hornets trailed at half 32-31 and it was a pretty close game. UM led by 4 and the Hornets pulled ahead to have a 5 point lead before UM secured the halftime lead. Hornets struggled from the FT line but have had great ball movement on offense. The defense had quite a bit of steals. UM has a 7 ft tall player and they stripped him multiple times when he was fed in the low post. TB drilled a few 3’s so hopefully he has found his stroke. Katz did use some full court press so that was a good thing to see.

UM opened the second half in dominating form and jumped out to a 7 point lead. The Hornets had some pretty sloppy play as they had a lot of ball handling turnovers. UM had a lot of easy points in the paint with back door cuts and layups. The Hornets was unable to defend Cherry and he banged home a lot of bombs from behind the arc. Most of UM’s points have been by 3 players.

54-42 8:20 left. UM in complete control.
56-42 UM 7:21 left.
63-44 UM 3:49 left. A pathetic performance by the Hornets for much of the second half.

Groom finally sees the court with under 3 mins left. He immediately had an assist, a steal, and a layup. For fvck sakes Katz play this kid.

68-52 UM final.

This one was close in the first half but Katz was completely outcoached in the second. UM made all the necessary adjustments to run away with it, the Hornets had no answer for any of the UM adjustments. The Hornets had too many turnovers on entry passes and dribbling in the paint. Still no sign of Groom even as TB labored up and down the court. You think Katz would at least play some of the younger players once UM had a comfortable lead and about 6 or 7 minutes left. The players looked very unenthused in the last 10 minutes of the game.

UM is one of the top teams in the BSC so I am not too surprised at the score. What I am surprised and disappointed in is the lack of effort by the players and the poor game management of the players by the coaches. Some of the Hornets looked gassed but they were left in the game. With plenty of young players on the bench this should not happen.
