We berat Montana tonight 49-47. A messy game. Montana has height; we slowed it down and played from the perimeter and only modestly well. Have to hand it to our defense though - they had Montana panicking at the end. Faucher put needless pressure on in the last seconds, missing both free throws.
She needs to practise those free throws! She used to be absolutely dependable on thoseWas she tired? Or?

Yikes. Nail biter that shouldn't have been.

What's the saying? Good teams know how to win ugly?

I realize the concept of the approach tonight by trying to play over the UM zone, but when you're stuck on 38 points for what seemed like ten minutes, get Claire to take the ball to the basket to try to make something happen.

Is it me or was that the first time Jackson and Claire spent minutes on the floor together this year? I don't get to all of the Lady Vik games, but I can't recall seeing that before.

Oh, and I forgot how awesome Robin Selvig is to watch coach. I actually think he's convinced that UM has not committed an actual traveling violation in 32 years.

It is hard to understand what is going on at the recent games. Wade played 5 minutes against Sacramento State after blocking 7 of Oregon State's shots. In the Montana game, she played 10 minutes of great defense in the first half and had 6 points (3-4), 4 rebounds and a blocked shot. In the second half, she played 6 minutes although Montana was scoring almost all of their points inside. She was, luckily, in the game to block a layup with 9 seconds left.

Defense is at least one half of the game and to have a defender like Wade on the bench for most of the game just doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense.

As far as I've seen, yeah, that was the first time.

The Big Sky conference genius of playing back to back games is seen here....no legs = poor shooting. Ugly game in fact pretty boring until last 5 minutes. Good to get the sweep!

Per usual substitution patterns are really hard to understand....
Good job Vikings!

There's an article in The Missoulian from today about that subject. Apparently the women's coaches really hate the policy.

they will wind up paying more for injuries than travel costs by the end of the season if you look at the entire conference, my educated guess.

I'm seriously worried about what hapens when we go on the road with back to back games. A lot of the substitution has to do with not wearing out the players, and Murrell's estimation of who's tired and who's not. I'll defer to her on that, but the whole team gets tired with back to backs, especially on the road. The Conference's decision this year on the back to backs was done in a panic, without thinking it through. The disparaty between the men and the women is obvious and unacceptabole. The disparity between the women's teams is equally obviously unfair. I realise that scheuling is a monster to pull off, but this is just plain dumb. I can't believe it will be done again. Just out of curiosity, did any other coferences use this gambit?
