UM

I expect a close game again. Although as numerous people have noted, the addition of Bassett since we last played UM has been huge. Up in Missoula, Carlson and Tew combined for 13 minutes, 2 points on 1-5 shooting, 2 rebounds, and 4 fouls.

I think our guys have had this game circled since they beat us up there on a last second shot. We played ok that game and the Grizz played amazing and barely won. I remember they made a almost half court shot to beat the shot clock. They shot over 50% on both regular FG's and 3 point FG's. I would bet that game was their best played game of the year and they still barely beat us. Add in Bassett has been playing amazing for us and he didn't even play up there, I like our chances. Just for fun lets do a position by position comparison.

Center
Anderson (Montana) against Bassett for (Weber) Huge advantage for WEBER. Bassett should dominate this matchup. Anderson has no chance against Bassett.

PF
Bannan (Montana) against Jones for (Weber) This is a tough one. Bannan is the Grizz best player and damn good. Jones is arguably Weber's best player. They have different styles. I 'm going to call this one a push. So EVEN

SF
Carter-Hollinger (Montana) against Overton (Weber) Advantage WEBER. Carter is a solid player, but not even close to Overton. Comparing the stats and Overton should dominate this matchup.

SG
Beasley (Montana) against Jawara (Weber) This matchup is pretty even, but just basing off stat to stat comparison Jawara is better so I will say slight edge WEBER. They are very similar players, but Jawara has better numbers and lately has been playing out of his mind. He has really turned it up a notch the last 6-7 games.

PG
Whitney (Montana) against Koby (Weber) Huge advantage for WEBER. Koby is a man out there. Whitney is a solid player, but not in the realm of Koby. I expect Koby to have a big game tomorrow night.

Bench
I'm just going to say MONTANA has a slight edge as far as bench goes. Tew has not done much the last few games. Koelher has done good things, but not consistently and Porter is all over the place. Montana's bench seems a big more consistent than Weber's so slight edge to the Grizz.

I can't wait for tomorrow night. Should be a damn fun game. My prediction Weber wins fairly big. Weber 82 Grizz 67

We matchup better with UM than we did with EWU. Of all the teams in the BSC, EWU gives us the most trouble with matchups. Our two smallest starters are 6'3'' and 6'4''. However, they play bigger because of their strength and athleticism. EWU guys in those positions were 6'5'', 6'6'', and 6'7''. I still believe what Ron A. used to say; ''it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.''

In general, the matchups favor us against UM and the home floor favors us. The intangible is the fight in UM. They always have a lot of it. When they punch you, you just have to get up and keep fighting. Hopefully, we get a more seasoned set of officials for this game. Rookies like we had Monday won't cut it. Just look across the floor to see who the refs are, and you will know how the game will unfold. Will we get Mr. arm bar, Mr. flop, and Mr. WTF; hope not. :wall:

Should be a good game. I think Weber State wins by eight, but it will be close throughout the game.

Nice hard fought win! You knew it was going to be a battle with first place on the line. The Wildcats came up big down the stretch. McEwen and Jones really stepped up their games.

Nineteen of twenty free throws made by McEwen is amazing and 26 of 29 for entire team is as well. That was a big key to the win. Congrats to the team and Coach Rahe.

The grind continues…rested Bobcats next and at EWU next week.

I thought that there were two keys to last night's game. First, in the 2nd half Weber seemed to change up how they were guarding Bannon. I think he only got 6 in the 2nd half. Second, when Weber fell behind 55-50 they went to same basic offensive set 3 straight times down the floor - give it to Jones on the wing and let him take Bannon or Anderson to the paint. 6 straight points. 56-55 lead.
The Griz are good. That was a good win last night.

Congrats to Weber on the nice win. Fun game to watch and hard fought all the way. Griz won't back down but truly lacked size at every position. Bassett Jones and McEwen stand out. I'm no big fan of Rahe and watched last night and ask....What if Decuire had Weber's guys and Rahe had Montana's? Transfers must like only having to play for him for a year or two.

Reffing favored Weber down the stretch but didn't determine the game, Weber hit two clutch 3's and made FT's down the stretch. Griz didn't convert a few times when they had to. When McEwen goes pro next year he'll have to take a couple touches going to the basket! Rahe sure likes to whine when and if Weber has calls go against them!

Weber crowd????? 10 -1 in league and riding a 7 game winning streak at home against the other top program in the conference...did attendance crack 2,000?

First, attendance was 5,300 and change. The Dee holds 11,000 and the cheaper seats were way more full than the seats down low. Appearances can be deceiving. Secondly, there were a lot of WTF calls in that game and most favored Travis's spitting in the refs ears all night long. More whine than at a vineyard. He chased the refs out to the center circle at least twice. How he doesn't get thrown out of games more often, I'll never know. As far as TD having Weber's guys, it would never happen, he's too big of a..., fill in the blank to actually get any of our guys.

Lastly, Travis does have his guys playing D at a high level and last night your shots were falling as well. I've watched several UM games this year and that is the best offense I have seen the Grizz put on the floor against good competition. I really like two or three of your quick little guards. Good luck in your remaining regular season games. :thumb:

We fans are funny . I try to be impartial...but then throw out a few calls I see that don't favor my team and say WTF! You see "most favoring spitting Travis"! I watch Rahe whine on damn near every call against his team. You watch Travis........So the refs must have done OK.

As to the coach thing....do you know Decuire? Pretty well respected by his players, his community and I think by his peers. Loyal to the school he played for and has a pretty good record of recruiting 4 or 5 year HS kids that usually stay if they are good enough to play. A couple odd off the court issues in the past few years but overall pretty respected program that he's proud of.

I don't know Rahe so will stick to calling him short rather than a big asshole! Do notice that Overton, McEwen, Bassett all fell in love Weber enough to play there for one year. The other two seniors not so much.....

Awesome crowd! Good seats must be pricey!

I don't know Travis personally, as you do. I just know from what I have seen and what family members of some of your former players have said to me when they attended games at WSU. I would just say this; sometimes the player's personality fits with the coach and sometimes it doesn't. Travis seems to have a group of guys who fit him right now and that is good for his program. He has his kids playing some nasty D. When they are hitting those last second shots, they are hard to beat. When you can run the shot clock down to 2 seconds and still score, you are TD type of guy.

I watched your game with EWU twice. That's just how crazy I am. The first time, I had the impression that EWU got hosed in the last two minutes of the game. The second watch, I wanted to see just how many WTF calls there were in that game and which way they went. I was sure it was going to even out over the course of the full game. BTW, I call it a WTF call when the replay does not support the call. Anyway, I counted 7 such calls in the first half and 5 in the second half. In the first half 5 favored UM and in the second half 4 favored UM. The majority of calls/no calls were right on the money. However, in the WTF calls a 9-3 split favoring one team seems a bit excessive. EWU got homered. The Travis ref baiting seems to work. It also helps to have a good home crowd like you did for that game and inexperienced refs.

I don't think that the few WTF calls in our game last night effected the game much. It would be the difference of Weber winning by 5 or Weber winning by 7. No big deal.
