The Hornets host the BSC leaders as the Bears come to the Nest at 5-0 in conference play. This one shouldn’t be close. UNC is in the top half of the conference for pretty much all of the statistical categories. Their leading scorer is a guard Beitzel who averages 19.0 ppg. They also have a pair of forwards, Kingman and Kaba who are averaging 12.0 and 10.4 ppg respectively. Their other guard Lloyd averages 8.7 ppg. This team has plenty of weapons and with the porous Hornet defense; they should have no problem scoring.

I haven’t seen UNC play so I don’t know what tempo or style of offense they run. The Hornets will have to get their game on both offense and defense together if they want a chance in this one. There is still time to turn it around and the Hornets need to find something positive to build off of. UNC does host WSU two nights after this game so they could very well get caught looking ahead if they don’t focus on taking care of business against the Hornets.

Was at the game. Very small crowd. We made a valient effort at a comeback and nearly got there after being down by at least 14 fairly late and pulled within 3 near the end. We had a couple turnovers that kept us from catching up. Toles Bey finally got real hot and Hoffman hit some too, but UNC has several shooters. I thought our "D" was playing real hard early on and kept us in it, but we got a little tired in the middle of the 2nd half and fell behind by the double digits. They slowed it down a little then and our "D" picked up again and we got it close. A great effort overall for the Hornets.

I didn't see Zach Nelson on the bench. I wonder if he's out becuz of academics. This is about the time of year that that stuff happens.

i was watching the video feed, the crowd looked very small (the angle shows the bench area). nice comeback at the end. they seemed to take ALOT of time on the the last few possessions to get their 3 point shots off; also, they went for the pressure/steal after getting it to 3 and after not getting a steal let UNC run off a fair amount of time before they figured out someone needed a foul. they didn't seem to have a great game plan with a couple minutes to go, and the lead within a couple possessions. sounds like a sentence written before for those first few BSC games?

its only one game, but, i was surprised this team was atop the BSC. they didn't seem that talented, nor did they seem to execute that well. of course, if they shoot 50% from beyond the arc (like last night) every game, that would explain things.

Thanks for the recap Green Hornet. I saw the halftime score of the Hornets trailing by 9 and figured they were putting up a fight. I tuned in for the last 14 minutes or so. The Hornets battled but had costly turnovers at inopportune times that really derailed any hopes of taking a late lead. The Hornets went 20 of 27 from the free throw line which isn’t bad, but a few more made freebees could have been the difference. If the Hornets play this hard and continue to improve thier defense, they should be able to beat EWU this weekend.

I missed that. That is a pretty big upset. Looks like the Hornets will have to be at their best to pull out a win this weekend. :|
