UNLV Transfer

This guy is transferring from UNLV and will graduate this summer and be able to play right away, but for only one year. He led UNLV in scoring and is a shooting guard. I would love to bring in a guy like this for next year. He averaged almost 14 ppg last year. I'm not worried about defense next year, but I worry about scoring with Berry, Richardson and Tres all leaving. It would be nice to have a Senior starter next year because I think we start all underclassmen next year. I just don't see either Williams or Hajek starting next year. I think they both will be good contributors and roll players though. I hope Coach Rahe calls Coach Rice down there and at least tries. I do believe we do need to add a solid wing player next year to help with scoring. Here is his ESPN profile.

Why? USC for 1 year, UNLV for 2 years, and now wants to bail an go to a third team, why?

From CBS Sports:
"The 6-foot-5 swingman averaged 13.6 points this past season, but also had a couple of behavior issues. Dejean-Jones was suspended for the regular season finale against Wyoming for a violation of team rules, and was also reportedly yelling at teammates in the locker room after the Mountain West tournament loss on Friday."

That doesn't make him sound like the type of person Weber or Coach Rahe would be excited about. I mean, this isn't Montana

We don't know what happened or what was said. First he did transfer from USC, but can you blame him? USC is the joke of the PAC 12. Yes, he probably has had some issues in the past. Maybe he needs a fresh start. We shouldn't judge the kid. That's not cool. He is graduating in the summer so give him credit for that Sounds like he will probably try and play pro ball in Europe anyway. Mostly I am stating I would really like to add a transfer player like him who is a scoring guard from either the JC ranks or a another DI school who can play right away next year. It will be interesting to see who we bring in with that open scholarship spot.

I'm sure Rahe has, & the answer is no. Coaches who bring guys like this in, show weakness, and desperation, like Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy who brought in Marshall Henderson.

Wow, you are so quick to assume you know everything about players past and what Coach Rahe knows and thinks. There are exceptions and you don't know what happened. I hate when people think they know everything and assume. I have no idea what happened to this kid. Maybe he is a head case, but maybe he is a good kid that made a couple bad choices and deserves another chance. I remember a kid that played at USU a few years ago that had a big time criminal record. He was in jail for a while and worked his way out and into a JC program and then into USU, and did very well there for 2 years and graduated. I wish I could remember his name. Was probably 3-4 years ago. All I know is this kid is very talented and I think we need to add another scorer next year. I'm sure the chances he would come here are very slim, but you never know.......

I don't know about this kid specifically, but if he is willing to make some changes and play team ball, in Rahe's system, and mature, then who knows. Coach has taken a chance on some kids in the past. Berry was a chance. He has taken his DI opportunity and really made the most of it. He is going to be the guy that'll help Weber pull off the biggest upset in NCAA history this Friday.

I agree with Wazzu though. I still worry about who on the team or that is coming in, will be able to pick up the scoring this current team is losing. I'm sure Senglin and Gittens will contribue 5 - 10 more ppg between them. But where else are we going to get points? I'm not against bringing in a JC or two, who can contribute. Should be an interesting spring. Which'll start after a great NCAA tournament run.

You'd be more likely to see Berger or Stone transfer to Weber. Both are leaving USU.

Both are good guys, but noway that Weber would want either. Stone is headed to a DII and Berger might be lucky to get picked up at UVU where his buddy Bruneel is currently playing. Now David Collette, that wouldn't be a bad option, once he gets back from his mission.
