I would like to give some recognition to members of the Hornets team who don't ordinarily get much credit. First off I'd like to give credit to Cody Demps. He has been our number one defender for the last two years, always taking on the oppositions best offensive player no matter what size that player is. He has sacrificed his body and offensive game at times for the good of the team by "wearing" that player like a suit. His offense has been very good this year because he has more confidence and his choices of shots has improved greatly. He has been our best all-around rebounder for two years also. Second up is Alec Tiffin. Last year I cringed when he took a shot or especially if he went to the foul line. This year I look forward and expect him to make shots from the floor and the line. He is shooting over 50% from the floor and 86% from the line. The improvement is absolutely incredible. I have never seen such an improvement from one year to the next. His rebounding and hard nosed defense has been a big plus for this team. Third up is Dreon Barlett. Dreon has become a reliable player that Coach Katz can depend on nightly. He has always been a good shooter but he has had to convince himself that he is a good shooter. I was so happy to see him have a big game last night when the stakes were high. Dreon has played tough man to man all year and doesn't get enough credit for his defense as he should. Fourth up is Zach Mills. Zach is not a big surprise to most Hornet fans as he started for the team last year. He has filled a role this year that every good team needs and that is an offensive spark off the bench. Zach has maintained his consistency on his shot this year and has led the team several times in rebounding while playing limited minutes. Some players would become a distraction if they were asked to give up playing time for the good of the team but Zach has embraced that role and done a fabulous job. Nick Hornsby has assumed the duty of guarding the opponents big scorer when Cody takes a rest. His rebounding is excellent and his offense will get much better when he starts to have more confidence in his shot. He is also a very good passer as his assist totals would surprise many fans. Eric Stuteville has stepped up as an inside threat this year and is becoming a force blocking shots. All the bench players have had a big part in the Hornets improvement by practicing hard and preparing the team for what the next opponent will bring. This team genuinely like and care about each other. We, the fans, can be proud to support this group of young men. They truly deserve our support. Sacramento State will be hard pressed to ever field a team of better individuals than this bunch. Thank you players.....you have provided me with many good memories and will continue to provide more in the future. I will be there to support you wherever you guys can lead me. You are well worth my support.

Very well said! Great jobs Hornets, Coach Katz and staff. We need to recognize Coach Katz 's efforts to bring in the type of student athletes that perform both in the classroom and on the court. They do a great job of representing themselves and the University .
This program was a embarrassing mess both on and off the court when Coach Katz took over. We have seen the results of his recruiting in the classroom, now they are starting to pay off on the court.
Let's hope we continue to attract high quality student athletes dispute the poor facilities.

Go Hornets!

indeed.

so excited to see the improvement and can't wait until the next game and to see this team continue to take the floor and give it all they have from start to finish against all the great teams in the Big Sky who are giving all they can as well. The Hornets respect all opponents and know they are in for a battle every game.

Go Hornets.

Sac State Pride.

Great post pgp and GL, I agree. While my Hornet fandom doesn’t even hit the 15 year mark, this is by far the best hoops team I have seen. There were some exciting times a decade ago but even then it was really just a few extremely talented players essentially carrying the team with their raw talent and scoring ability. Shut down any one or two of those players in a game and it was guaranteed to be a Hornet loss.

This team is different. Different players are stepping up at different times and getting things done to allow this team to win. This team has 3 solid players coming off the bench that can produce when needed and that makes all the difference in close games. Also Katz has been making some great adjustments to take advantage of the roster depth. Very exciting times.

Thank God for our "Unsung Heroes". Last night Stuteville 11pts 4rbs 3bks...Hornsby 8pts 7rbs 3a...Tiffin 8pts 5rbs 1a. together they were 11 for 17 from the floor (65%)...we don't win without contributions like these...Not to dismiss the clutch free throws by Mills and (who would believe he would even be in the game) Trevis Jackson...seems like Katz knows more about Trevis than any of us....This is a T E A M
