Unwatchable

I mainly just watch Weber basketball and other Big Sky teams - checking out the competition - but this team is unwatchable. So guess it’s WW2TV on YouTube this year.

I remember walking on campus my first day and the bank across the street was flashing our top 20 national ranking status. Huge fan of Weber basketball ever since. I was from California and had no idea Weber basketball was so elite until I saw that.

But this is painful. I just can’t watch.

Yep, wondering if hoops team can match or beat the football team’s 10 wins. Think it’s very likely they won’t. Starting to see why Rahe left when he did. Anyone know how long Duft’s contract for? Hoping they didn’t sign a long-term deal, because if so, it could be really bad.

As I type this, 15 points scored in one half for Wildcats, 29% FG, including 1-9 from 3 point line.

I graduated in the mid 90s after Weber beat Michigan State in Florida. Going to the Dee was the thing to do as a student. I came back in 03 with my son and watched our Wildcats beat Eastern Washington in an almost sold out stadium (he was 3 at the time and automatically feel in love with Weber). Last Saturday, that same son told me he wants to transfer from Weber after we watched Weber get beat by Utah Tech. It broke my heart. We are Wildcats. It is likely that we will lose to the DII team visiting on Saturday.

I am not a basketball expert, but DUFT should never have been given the reins to this program. Randy was a real coach. A guy who knew how to get the most out of his teams. He wasn't the greatest or best coach we've ever had, but he was a good coach. His biggest issue/problem was that he stayed too long. He was done two years ago. Unfortunately, Duft isn't anywhere near that same level. He can't use the excuse that he is rebuilding. This is his team. He has been part of this program for 16 years. The problem isn't the players, it is the coach. This team has talent. This team has potential. It just isn't being tapped.

Time to vent! I've been attending Weber games since the mid sixties. I've seen many people come and go. Coaches, players and Athletic Directors. Some good some bad. I dropped my season tickets 4 years ago because I'd had enough. Do people realize that Weber hasn't been to the NCAA since 2016? It won't happen again this year. That makes 7 seasons of this dumpster fire. I'm sure those that get on this site get it but so many others do not. It appears the Administration is of that group.
When I was growing up Weber was the Big Sky. We were the team to beat. We had great players and great coaches. Over the years we have sadly been replaced as the premier team to an also ran. This year we are probably the worst team in the league. How does that Happen!!!!! We have the resources, and facilities to be at the top. But we've settled. We've settled for far too long.
I had emailed our last AD about these issues and grievances but sadly was ignored and he jumped ship 2 months later. Laughing all the way. He didn't want anything to do with Weber's b-ball issues.
We all knew that Rahe had stayed a couple of years too long. When he left and he delayed his announcement, it put Weber in a huge bind. By delaying, ( I think he did this with intent so Weber almost had to hire Duft) the fix was in and Duft was hired. I get that Weber didn't want to lose existing players and it was the easy thing to do. What they should have done is do a national search. If they lost some players, so be it. Weber had a ton of seniors that were leaving already. It was the perfect time to start over. Get the right coach even if it took a few weeks. The new coach would have been able to keep some players and bring in his own as well.
I also know of the Lillard pressure to keep Duft. So what! What is the right thing for the program. It's to get the right coach not the convenient coach. Let's hope they get the right coach in football. I've rambled enough but I've wanted to do this for at least 5 years. Cheers!

Well stated Wildog!!! :ohno: Like tadhadfour steals, I was hoping that Duft would succeed. He is an excellent person, but I believe he's in over his head.

Back for more. I meant to bring this up in the earlier post.
I was looking over Weber's b-ball success over the years and it's really tough to see.
Since 2000 Weber has made it to the NCAA's 4 times. FOUR!!!! 2003, 2007, 2014, 2016. We did blow a couple of homecourt Big Sky championship opportunities along the way. You can add only 2 more from 1990. 1995 and 1999.
What we should be seeing is Weber competing for the Big Sky every year. Not every 5 years.
Not being to the NCAA for 7 years should be a wakeup call to the Administration. But they do what they do.
Oh, by the by, I wish more people were on here. You all have info that would be fun to read, discuss and share. I need more info on recruiting for football and b-ball.
Cheers

It is unwatchable, I turned the last game off. We can't create good shots, can't defend, its bad right now. We have the players but the system is a train wreck.
