Upcoming interview with the Big Sky Commissioner

Hi SacBuzz members,

I've got an interview with Big Sky Commissioner Doug Fullerton next hour. I've got my list of questions ready to go, but is there any questions you would ask him?

Bill Bradley
SacStateSports.com.

The Big Sky TV quality is God awful. Will the conference look to push improved quality (HD cameras) and product to from BSTV to improve the appearance of the conference?

Will there be any changes to the BSC hoops tournament setup with the added members? (Designated home location in a big market city (SLC, Sac, Portland, Phoenix, Spokane, etc)?

When are you kicking out UND for their name issues? That was a terrible addition to the BSC, without another Dakota school, you are left looking like a moron as that addition has added significantly more travel expense for everyone not named Montana State.

BSC officiating has been more pathetic and horrible this season than it usually is, will there be a push to improve the ridiculous officiating situation of the BSC?

When are the BSC invites to Idalol and Utah State being sent out?

If the conference shake-up resulted in the loss of a mid major FBS conference like the WAC, would he consider evaluating the possible "move-up" of the entire conference.

One more, I hope it’s not too late:

With the new inexplicable change in the BSC mantra that now allows football only membership, will the BSC consider keeping Sac State as a football only member if another more appealing and cost effective conference invites Sac State for Olympic sport membership?

I had a very good interview with Doug Fullerton. I think he addressed all of these concerns in one way or another.

Just for a preview, the league wants a 14th team and there appears to be a new media deal very soon.

I hope to have the Q&A posted at http://www.SacStateSports.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; posted by Thursday morning.

Thanks for all of your questions,

Praise Jebus!

The BSC would be in perfect shape if he didn’t drop the ball on the Dakota invites. I have no idea where a 14th member will come from but assuming they play football, the options are slim. My guess is he is looking at a D-2 move up and that won’t help the BSC prestige at all. If Fullerton actually thinks he can land a WAC leftover, he has truly lost it. :dunce:

I'm looking forward to the article on Triple S later this week Bill. :thumb:

Let's rephrase that. The possible D-II call-ups WITHIN OUR FOOTPRINT won't help BSC prestige. Give us Grand Valley State or TX A&I and that might help. But that would just exacerbate the current travel issues. About the only D-II within our footprint I'd even consider would be Central Washington, and even they aren't really enough to excite anybody.

My vote goes to the mighty Lumberjacks of Humboldt State! Their coach has them on the right path, they kicked future BSC bottom feeder U.C. Dungpile to the curb Saturday night with only 11 scholarships!

Not that I'm enthused by the idea, but who would be Humboldt's travel partner? PSU?

Who do you think?! PSU already has one, Eastern!

I know that. But EWU can easily take on ISU in that role, with WSU taking SUU. PSU could pair with either Humboldt or CWU. But this is all meaningless speculation since I highly doubt Foolerton would screw around with a D-II callup.

Seriously, do you know how far it is from Cheney to Pocatello? About 500 miles! Tell me how that would make sense? Also, Flagstaff is three hours from Cedar City. Think about it!!

The WAC did the same thing, gorge up to 16 teams and then the better funded programs broke off to form the MWC. Maybe the BSC has that as long-term strategy, with the NCAA in flux strange things happen.

SD, Call up the AD for USD and tell them to get about 63 football schollies as we all want road trips to SD every other year, and the thought of going to Ricky Williams heaven is not that appealing. That would be my vote for 14th.

San Diego, or Idaho

And I know it is a little greedy of me, and even though it is financially better for Sac to go to say the Big West Conf for hoops, I would rather have Sac stay in the Sky, just like I wish Davis and Poly would become Sky hoops members.

What do most Sac fans feel about that? Would you rather play basketball in the the BWC or the BSC?

I prefer Sky, accountant prefers BW. I think there is more 'prestigue' in the Sky. Most BW teams are still playing in a 1950's barn, Sac included.

Fullerton should have held firm on his all-sports membership guideline. His flux on that requirement totally screws us. We need a BSC football only – BW Olympic sports set up like our in-state rivals.

And like GCM said, our hoops facilities are on par with many of the BW members so the fit would be perfect. :ohno:

Well in all fairness, most of the Big SKy hoops venues arent any better

That is quite true. Oh, Spanos Center (You Know Where), the Pyramid (LBSU), and the Bren Center (UCI), and even Titan Gym (CS Fullerton) are better than the Hornets Nest. But that's about where it ends for the Big West. Riverside is notorious for having one of the worst gyms in all of college basketball/volleyball. CSUN isn't much better. And the Thundercrap at UCSB is horribly located in that one must park a long ways away and park. Even the Hornets Nest is closer to parking.

So while we could use a little sprucing up around here, were we in the Big West, we'd have nothing to worry about.

SD is right to :ohno:
