Do you think EWU will get Malik Watson

I don't know about Watson, but I am pretty sure Bowe Merin from Stockton, CA has committed...

That would be great news about Bowe Merin! Do you have a link to his verbal commitment? He has some zip on his throws looks to be fairly mobile in the pocket. Go Eags!!! :D

Mason Kelly recruiting guru for Seattle times mentioned today he believes Clarence Coler from Clevend H.S. is headed for EWU. Any one else heard about this? Looks like he visited EWU...

Wow what a story, talk about building character. I hope we give him a ride just to give the kid a break if nothing else.

Two All-State players headed to EWU

Chiawana's Downing, Zamora set to commit to EWU

By the Tri-City Herald

PASCO -- Chiawana seniors Jordan Downing and Miquiyah Zamora, both named to the Washington 4A all-state football team in the fall, plan to remain teammates at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.

The four-year starters went on a recruiting trip last weekend that all but finalized their decision. The next date for athletes to sign letters of intent is Feb. 1.

"It's not official, but it's really solid. It came down to Western Oregon and Eastern, but Eastern gave me a chance to play as a true freshman," said Zamora, a three-time all-CBBN defensive back who will play safety with the Eagles. "I'm just happy I get to prove myself to people that I belong at a Division I program."

Zamora, listed at 6-foot-1 and 199 pounds, has been the CBBN's top shutdown cornerback since emerging as a starter with Pasco in 2008. He became a dangerous kick returner on special teams and finished sixth among CBBN 4A receivers with 40 catches.

Downing, a 6-1, 200-pounder who started at linebacker and running back at Chiawana, will be a preferred walk-on at Eastern, where he will join Zamora on the defensive side of the ball.

"A lot of junior colleges wanted me as a running back, but I made up my mind I wanted to play defense," said Downing, recovering from a broken ankle suffered in an early October football game.

"I've always been a fan of Eastern. My uncle played there. It came down to me wanting to be happy."

Downing said he plans to put on about 20 pounds over the spring and summer before taking the field in the fall. He expects the ankle injury will be fully recovered by then.

"It's definitely going to get there," Downing said. "It's still not 100 percent as far as strength and flexibility, but it's not really limited as of now."

Zamora and Downing are part of a recruiting class that includes Davis receiver Cooper Kupp, a first-team all-CBBN 4A selection.

We all love our out of area recruits, we don't win the national title without guys like Taiwan, Bo Levi, Brandon and too many others to list. But it's guys from local schools like the Pasco kids in the story above that make EWU special. Whether it's Matt Martin from the small school in eastern Washington or Tyler Jolley from one of the bigger schools the local kids shine. It will be good to see Jordan Tonani on the field this fall and all the GSL fans are hoping to see Shane Schmidlkofer on the field in the near future too. JC Agen and Nick Lenoue will see more playing time and Jake Miller has been as good anyone nationwide. Seeing Drew Sharkey from Ferris High School mentioned in the local paper as an EWU recruit is great news. His dad is one of the best high school football coaches in the state. Hope to see all our local fans Wednesday at the EAA lunch. We will learn first hand who we've signed and how our redshirts are doing.

There are 92 fans signed up so far for the Annual Recruit Lunch at Northern Quest. Nothing but good news coming from Coach Baldwin and his staff.

Can't wait for spring ball!

Another POSSIBLE commit I'm hearing about tonight is Robbie Painter, a 6'6/280 OL out of Aurora CO. Rated a 2 star by scout.com and does have a youtube video.

Robbie would be a great pickup. Came from same school as Jerry Ceja(Grandview) which is a 5A Colorado Power. Could possibly play right away .

Oral commitment today (Rivals)from OLineman Wil Boule 6-7/260 from Oak Ridge HS El Dorado Hills, CA.
At this time next year he should be 295. I don't know if he visited this weekend?

Being that big, he would definitely stand out

Updated this to add OL Will Boule. Sucks about Drew Sharkey, but like someone else said, full scholarship offers will beat out partials all day long.
