Upgrades for Stewart Stadium?

I have been hearing rumors that they are planning on replacing the field in the stadium with a new grass field, which would be nice, but I don't see the point if the team practices all week on carpet why you wouldn't replace the old grass with carpet just blows me away. Also the way I see it Stewart Stadium is second nicest stadium in the Big Sky as is, but is in need of some minor upgrades, restrooms, permanent concession stands, etc. Not to long ago in the Standard an article was written by a handicap man about how the stadium didn't accommodate for people with disabilities at all. Jerry Graybeal mentioned in the stadiums "master plan" there are plans for the stadium to meet modern day standards. Lets face it, fans, coaches and players take pride in the Univ facilities, if Weber wants to do this football thing they are going to have to hunker down and get serous to have a sustainable future. Would it be great to win a conference championship in football ever 3.5 years like we do in B-Ball, I think the DEE has played a major roll on that success.

Actually its every 2.6 years in bball.

As for football it will take some years of packing the current stands to expand, as for concessions/restrooms, etc..., not sure...

Chanshare in Tremonton is the company that is resodding the sodding field during the sodding offseason. As for artificial I guess they don't want it. We do practice on artificial but also on real grass both.

Maybe its because of track & field? Where would they throw the jav, though I can't imagine that is the only reason.

Field events for Track and Field are a major reason... The track team wins a Big Sky Title almost every year... Hell they have so many that they throw the old ones in boxes in the equipment room of Stewart Stadium. Anyway, I like real grass... It gives UM fans a reason to complain and a scape goat for losses.. Even though both teams have to play in the same conditions... Interesting (my fav is the monsoon excuse like Weber State players are more use to playing in Rain, or wont also playing in the same rain storm...Utah = Desert? hmmm). As for other updates at Stewart Stadium... Won't Happen Till People COME! I have seen some plans...a horse shoe design on the North Side of the stadium with improvements on the GA side, but those wont happen for a while. I'll I know is that Weber has lights, and can play night games. If it weren't for USU pride...Weber could jump to the WAC right away. to bad Weber has to put up with the USU bias...They should be thanking us right now...didn't they just get our coaching staff?

With the Track and Field teams always competing a football program on the rise all the more reason to upgrade the facility as a whole. I not saying expand and put in turf, just make it a classy facility. Give it the appearance that when opposing teams walk into Stewart Stadium they know that this Univ means business. The bottom line is that major parts of the facility have been neglected for years and things need to get upgraded. As far as expansion goes I would love for that to be a serous topic of conversation and maybe in a few years it will be, but until then it would be nice to see some things happening up there to turn it into a top notch place for everyone to be proud of.

What happened to all the fans that came out to Ron Mcbrides first game as the Wildcats coach?

What happened to all 17,590 something fans that came to that game?

This year Weber State was making History, and on our final home game of the season, a game that if Weber would have won, Weber would have been undefeated in the Big Sky for the first time ever, only 8,000 fans showed up. What happened to them?

Weber has the fans they just need to come out of hiding.

I hate to say it but those "fans" were worried a lot more about a different football game that day (BYU-Utah). People in Ogden will come out as long as there is nothing else competing. I only wish most of them remembered which school they attend or attended and start supporting it instead of one they have no loyalty towards.

I think it would help more if the State of Utah media recognized Weber State and mentioned them once and a while.

If they are re-sodding the field, then Weber should make it look good.

For instance, in the endzone on one side would read WEBER STATE, and on the other Side would read WILDCATS. With the writing being white and the rest of the endzones being purple.

The field lines should be white outlined in Purple.

At the 25 yard line, instead of small wildcat in shield logos, they should put the Big Sky conference logos on both 25 yard lines, and at Mid-field a large Wildcat in Shield logo.

Make the field look good.

Why in the sod are these sods re-sodding the sodding field?

Dang sods!!!

I hit on this briefly in the basketball forum, but my theory is that if the football team were a reasonably consistent winner, they would get fans to the games. People in Ogden care about Weber, they just don't care to a greater extent when they don't win. At that point, I think casual fans begin to follow the other in-state teams. Because seriously, is it as much fun watching Weber State lose to teams hardly anybody knows on internet TV, or watch some of the other in-state teams play on their own networks or on national TV? I'm not saying that's necessarily the way it works, but it is a theory.

Are there any real considerations for Weber going to the WAC??? I have been hearing this for years, but is this actually a real possibility? If you look at the surrounding states and compare them to Utah, I just don't think we could or support four division 1 teams along the Wasatch Front.

Think about it:

Idaho- (2) I-A teams (with one being among the worst overall programs in the entire country) and (1) I-AA team.
Wyoming- (1) I-A team (among the most poorly attended teams in the country)
Colorado (and it's much higher population)- (3) I-A teams (although we really shouldn't count Air Force, because they don't really recruit locally at all), and (1) I-AA team.
New Mexico- (2) I-A teams (with NMSU being a pretty poor performer on a pretty constant basis).
Arizona (and it's much, much higher population)- (2) I-A teams, and (1) I-AA team.
Nevada- (2) I-A teams.
Utah- (3) I-A teams and (1) I-AA team along the Wasatch Front alone! Add another I-AA team in SUU.

One problem is our state doesn't produce a lot of Div I football players. So if that wasn't the case, it would be a lot easier to have 4 FBS teams in our state.

If we had more local talent that would help in being able to compete in FBS. If we were Florida or California it would be pretty easy. Doing all our recruiting out of state makes it hard to get enough talent. More local talent would be make easier to happen and with that happening we'd get the fan support at games.

Really the main thing is money, thats really all that matters. If we could sell out Stewart Stadium everygame that would increase our chances to move to FBS.

Would you rather be a nationally ranked FCS or a USU/NMSU/Idaho type FBS?

It might be more beneficial to stay in FCS and the Big Sky, thats the philosophy of the Montana schools.

Well said catcat, I would much rather see Weber playing for a NC than playing for the Who Gives a $H!T Bowl. As much fun as it would be to have bigger school come to Ogden and play. It seems like the FCS is a better fit right now. As for fan support, the more Weber wins the better it will get. I'm excited to see if last years playoff run will put more butts in the stands this season. It would be a great testament to the new direction the program is heading.

Weber IS Division 1 in all sports, including football. FCS is THE PREMIER subdivision in Division 1 football, because we crown a champion ON THE FIELD instead of having a bunch of fat guys in plad jackets smoking cigars ans eating donuts sitting around a table deciding who the champion is.

This is kind of the way I was leaning too. Look at poor Idaho. They were better off in the Big Sky. Nevada maybe was too. Boise St. is the only one who has done anything and they have done it with lots and lots and lots of money spent. The way Utah State has played lately they probably would be too. The bottom line for WSU and pretty much any other school is that if you win, people care. It doesn't matter what level it is at. Montana has formed a regional (if not national) reputation playing in the Big Sky. Are they Notre Dame or USC or Florida? No, but very few teams are.

Boise St. has shown that it can be done, but Idaho has shown how it can fail miserably.

In regards to basketball, WSU can get whatever reputation they want and climb as high as they want to in the Big Sky. See Gonzaga. Not an easy path, but the WCC and Gonzaga and other schools like George Mason and Davidson prove that it can be done without being in a "power" conference.
