LOGAN — Utah State basketball player Stavon Williams was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with being a minor in possesion of alcohol and for interference of an arrest.
Williams went over a back fence before being taken into custody when police were called to a large party, Logan Police Capt. Jeff Curtis said.
The junior guard has been suspended indefinitely from the team by Utah State coach Stew Morrill, the school announced Monday.
The arrest is the second setback to Williams’ unstarted USU playing career in the last week.
Williams, a junior college transfer from Minneapolis, dislocated the pinkie finger on his shooting hand in Utah State’s Blue-White scrimmage Oct. 29 at the Spectrum and is expected to be out 3-4 weeks with the injury.
Williams played two years at San Jacinto Junior College in Houston, before committing to the Aggies. Last season, he averaged 15.4 points and 5.3 rebounds while helping the Ravens to a 23-8 record.
As a senior at Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, Williams was an honorable mention McDonalds All-American.
