There will be many friends and families in attendance at this Saturdays game. I would expect to see as many Weber fans as UT Arlington. This game is literally in Senglin, Hunter, Bolomboy and Jeffersons backyard. It is also few hours away from Hills hometown of Humble Texas.

I hope this is a good thing for our players to play in front of familiar faces. I do worry about Senglin pushing the offense too much and not letting it come to him. We should be able to come out with a win. UT Arlington did not look great defensively against Montana State. They play at Texas tonight. The player to watch for Arlington is Lonnie McClanahan. He is averaging around 13 ppg. Lets make it a 3 game winning streak!

We match up well with UTA. I would like to see us take another step in solidifying our defense. UTA is a guard oriented team and they play a little smaller than ORU. MSU out rebounded them 35/31. I'm hoping that we can show some improvement in that area as well.

This is a good road test for us. They will be similar to a lot of BSC teams. :coffee:

I think that our post players will have a much better game in this one. It might be the kind of game where our big lineup can work well. They have good guards, but so do we. The winning factor could be the post play. :coffee:

I was eating lunch last week when smoking Joe walked in with a group of high school basketball coaches. He talked so dang loud that you couldn't hear anything else in the whole restaurant. He was telling some funny stories, but you can tell he is the attention hog friend. The guy didn't shut up.

Had to come see our Wildcats in person in the State of Texas. I was reading info on UTA's website. This will not be the same team that lost big to MSU this season. Their coach talked about their travel during that week of Thanksgiving. First they played #1 UK and got destroyed then a lot of bus riding to an airport, then to Utah and another bus ride, Thanksgiving dinner in a hotel in Montana. The coach didn't make excuses but I bet it played a factor. I hope our boys are ready for a better team. This same team played Univ of Texas very well last week. Can't wait to see how much purple and white shows up to the game today with all the Texas players. Let's go Wildcats!!!

Bet you wished you had played them at altitude..........Texas has given you players now it takes back a game...we still have UC Irvine to play tonight.....long shot for us to win that one

You know being in the stands tonight watching the game in person something's I saw besides the turnovers and Rebs were after we went on the 17-2 run in the 2nd half we stopped pushing the ball and we didn't get the ball into the post when we needed to. I also heard the coaches begging the guards to go in and rebound several times. We got to start inside to outside I saw for the first time all season they went to Hill in the post and he got some fouls that help them get back in it late. Then they were able to get the ball a little easier to Joel, we have to keep working towards more of that.

A major issue is the Cats lack of ability to get the ball into the paint. Bolomboy, if in single coverage, will usually win every time. He is such a huge presence on the court for the Cats. Only issue is that teams know he is our only option and so he gets doubled every time he touches the ball. In double coverage we cringe every single time Bolomboy gets the ball. There is a great chance that the possession will end in a TO. The Cats have to find another Big who can score. Coston hasnt shown much yet and Hill looks lost and out of position. I like the idea of pulling everyone out and letting Hill or even Gittens post up other twos and threes. Both should have a significant size advantage over the competition.

Lack of an inside presence really hurts our offense and unless the Cats are hitting the outside shot, you really can't drive. Teams are just packing it in on the Cats and they can until some other option opens up. I really think Richardson should get some more time. He has shown the confidence to step up and hit some shots. Rahe is playing the starters waaaay to many mins for this early in the season. Besides Ryan might really surprise us with his offensive play. He is a scorer and can really shoot. Give him more looks.

35-2. That's how much our bench was outscored by. I'm sorry, but we can't expect to win many games when we get 2 points, 3 rebounds, 0 assists, and 3 turnovers out of a combined 36 minutes from our 3 bench players.
Last year, we had a bench of basically 2 freshmen (Gittens and Hill). They averaged 40 minutes a game between them, 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 turnovers.

I know we all want to be positive and predict great things for the team in conference play, but this is not a very good team. Turnovers, lack of a bench AND players playing out of position are a major concern. I think we've been spoiled the last 3-4 years. This season might be about getting some experience and reloading for the next 4-5 years. I wish that we hadn't redshirted our freshman and allowed them to get some valuable experienced. Our starting 5 are on the court way too much, but when you look to the bench, there's no one there to replace them.
I think this season and next are going to be a challenge.

Red shirts are not permanent.....all you have to do is suit them up and play them...they really haven't missed much so far

I sat near the team bench and the large group of family and friends of all our Texas players. I saw coach talk to Joel a few times about gripping the ball much stronger then he was but what they really need to work with him on right now is reading double teams. Yesterday he had at least 3 turnovers because he didn't kick out of the double. We still refuse to start by getting into the paint consistently, we seem to like to start by firing up 3s late in the shot clock.

I think the coaches really have to work on Hunter's confidence because ever since he shot that air ball against ORU he doesn't even look to shoot. He had easily 4 or 5 open jump shots the he refused to shoot. Even if he misses he has to shoot some of them to give us a chance on the boards and keep the D honest. In regards to Hill not sure what Tal watched yesterday because from where I was sitting Hill was definitely not lost. Yesterday was the first time he was aggressive getting into the paint. He had 1 drive that got a goal tend call, another against their 6'10" post that got a foul, and another drive that he missed but because of the drive it opened up the paint for Joel to get a put back. His 3s where to me the problem, he shot neither of them with any confidence. If he does that maybe Joel will feel more confident in kicking it out to him when they double. We have to start making teams pay for doubling Joel. He has to be a willing passer and they have to shoot it better. That will give Joel the help he needs.

Man our bench what can I say other than we need some help from them even if that means pulling off the red shirts. I heard coach say after the game to some people we are young and he is so right but we had 2 freshmen coming off the bench last yr. with more production. We need our 2 freshmen, 1 junior, and 1 senior to contribute more.

Tough week of exams coming up and BYU on Saturday. A win would quiet the naysayers...... But it will be tough to get it done. Looks like the team is really struggling and I think the starters are tired. Joel and the turnovers are a serious problem.
It's time to shake up the lineup, but with Hajek playing 14 minutes and not taking a shot, I'm not sure if going big is going to have an impact. I'd like to at least try, Hajek, Bolomboy, Hill, Senglin and Hunter as our starting 5. If you need a shooter Senglin will love the opportunity!

I hate quashing any optimism but Weber is going to lose and lose huge Saturday.

As for pulling redshirts, I like the thought of getting to see what those players could do and how they might start to develop but I really think there are too many problems right now for that to make much difference. If coach had any doubts about the difference it might make, I'd hate to not fully benefit from a move like that. Unfortunately, I think we're gonna have to ride out a disappointing year from what we were hoping for. If it takes two years to get things gelling well, that will be very disappointing.
