Utah State and Gary Anderson

Interesting story line here with Utah State looming this week. Gary Anderson expressed interest in the ISU job when he was defensive coordinator at Utah. He withdrew his name, presumably after speaking with Bubb and company. Obviously, we hired Z instead. IMO, we were all pining for Anderson at the time, he would have been a great fit with his background in political science ( :D ), the upper valley having played for Ricks and his familiarity with ISU having served as DL coach.

Anyway, I bring all this up because Anderson seems to have things moving in the right direction at USU; they played well in Norman outgaining OU and losing by just a touchdown.

Weren't Gary Anderson (head coach of USU, Kyle Whittingham (head coach of Utah), and Dave Christensen (head coach of Wyoming) all assistants here at the same time under Garth Hall?

Yes sir they were, plus you forgot one guy--Andy Ludwig from Cal. They were all here together.

Andy Ludwig, who is considered one of the nation's top offensive minds and has more than 20 seasons coaching at the collegiate level, will be in his second season as Cal's offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 2010. Ludwig joined the Cal coaching staff in February of 2009.

In 2008, Ludwig served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Utah, helping the Utes to a perfect 13-0 record, a 31-17 victory over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and a No. 2 national ranking in the Associated Press poll. He also tutored Utah quarterback Brian Johnson to Mountain West Conference Offensive Players of the Year and Sugar Bowl MVP honors.

Ludwig has been an offensive coordinator the last 12 years with stops at Utah (2005-08), Oregon (2002-04), Fresno State (1998-01) and Cal Poly (1997). He left Utah for the offensive coordinator position at Kansas State following the 2008 campaign before deciding to move to Berkeley and coach with Tedford.

Whittingham and Anderson both stayed on when McNeely came to town. McNeely gave them both the boot blaming the defense for the teams woes, even with the defense being the best part of the team and Whittingham having 3 LB's all with 100+ tackles.

How are we going to contain Diondre Borel? The guy is a great QB. We really need to focus on him.
It would be very wise to pick Hutton's brain on this game. Hopefully he can play too.

That kid is for real. On top of that you have to worry about their running backs. Our best chance is to control the pace of the game with our backs but if it turns into a shootout we will really miss Krosch.
