Utah State post game thoughts

ok, im still tired since I had a hard time getting to sleep last night, but these are my thoughts about last nights game.

Bamforth is the man, the kid can hit from everywhere, He could possibly lead the nation in 3 point % again this year. 12-14 in two games is really impressive.

Lillard had an off night and still kicked butt. The guy knows how to creat shots for himself and others, and its good to know that if he is off somone else can step up and carry the load.

The students were loud, awesome job by the students and the whole crowd tonight. Lets bring those crowds back for the rest of the year. Awesome atmospher for an instate rivalry.

Bullinger might have had an off shooting night, but he was a rebounding beast, 13 rebounds on the night.

The only problem with last night's game was our lack of an inside presence, we got owned in the paint, if our three's didnt drop last night, we would have been in trouble.

USU has some dedicated fans, however having said that, flipping off our students and dropping the F bomb a couple times on our students at the end of our game was very classless, start losing with humility USU students :bad:

On USU's board they are calling Lillard classless, on our board we are calling pane classless, from what I saw, Pane was in Lillards face while Lillard was just trying to run the clock, Lillard then in turn went harlem globetrodder on Pane and handed the ball to Pane as time expired, Pane in turn chucked the ball at Lillard's head. I'll leave it at that, come to your own conclusion.

All in all it was a great instate rivalry win for Weber, Good luck to the Aggies the rest of the way.

NOW LETS GO GET THEM ANTEATERS of UC Irvine

The Cats missed about six or seven shots from point blank that should have gone in and usually do, but didn't. That's the nature of the game.

Gotta hand it to Stew, he always knows where to find bigs or develop bigs. Right now at least, I'm glad Clifford passed on us. I'm sure he'll get better but he isn't anywhere close to the player he was being touted as being. As for Grimm, he played great last night. Good for him. He deserves it. Tres needs to work on his speed a bit. Grimm was too quick for him. I like Tres' offensive game. Drove me nuts there weren't more attempts to get him the ball on the blocks. Fulton is awesome, but really needs to pass on some occasions. Mahoney!! He is a beast.

I only have one complaint against Lill. Some of those threes he needed to drive in instead of settling for the outside shot. Oh well. His D on Pane was solid. Those two were fighting a war the entire game. Fun to watch.

It was a fun game to be a Wildcat fan. The student section was great. The overall crowd was good, not great.

Buz cut either hates WSU or really loves USU. Either way, he should never do a WSU game. He can't be objective. The other two are just weak refs. They let Buz run the show and he is just plain corrupt. I don't know how else to put it.

Dame had an off night. He won't have many of those. If he has his normal game, we win by 25.

Pane attempted to steal the ball in the last 5 seconds. Dame held it for 4 seconds and gave him what he wanted with 1 second to go. When he got what he wanted, Pane threw the ball at the back of Dame's head as he walked away. Pane is a gutless loser. The rest of the Aggies showed a little more class.

USU is a good team. They will win a lot of games this year, win their league, and play in the post season. Pane will probably come to his sences and appologize. He was frustrated. It's understandable. He was totally beat. :coffee:

It's hard to find anything to complain about in a game like that. Bamforth was money. Lillard shut down Pane and Otis made Jardine a non-factor for the most part. I agree with Tal that Damian did seem to settle for a lot of 3s when he may have been able to drive to the rim. Also, it appeared Mahoney, Tresnak and Fulton all had a difficult time stopping Grimm. Makes me a bit nervous for when WSU faces some of BYU's bigs, but I'm sure Randy will work out the kinks (as few as there were last night). Does anyone have a link to USU's fan board? I want to read this for myself.

This link will take to the USU fan forum and the funniest posting of the bunch:

If you guys have anything to complain about after that game about USU then you have very thin skin and are little wussies that need to have a good cry and get over it. There is nothing to discuss. Pane threw the ball at Lillard, BFD! I doubt Lillard is talking about it today or gives a rats ass. They both got a tech too.

None of us have a problem with it, most of us think its actually pretty funny to see Pane lose his "cool"

My only complaint is being outscored 22-8 in the paint by the smaller but quicker USU.

I loved the atmosphere at the Dee last night. I just wish USU would have brought 1,000 more students and that WSU would have got 2,000 more students.

The students who came, had a good time. Lets build on this and get our house rockin every game.

First of all, what a great game to watch! The atmosphere was charged, our fans showed up and supported the team, and getting the win was sweet!

Not to take away from the victory, or all of the positives listed by everyone here, but am I the only one concerned about the fact that once again Weber nearly turned a double-digit lead throughout most of the game into a loss?

I think it was crystal clear that Weber was the better team. We were spanking USU throughout the first half, but letting them get within 6 points as the game came to a close is just scary. Somehow, we have got to develop both the physical and mental toughness to play an entire game at our best level. I do not want to come to the end of this season and have a let-down rob us of an NCAA appearance.

Anyone else concerned, or am I just being a wet blanket?

actually, Ricky the players have tweeted about it. You're so worried about a little smack w/ Aggies it's hilarious

Your not alone, I am also concerned. I knew USU was going to make a run, a Morril coached team is too good to just get blown away. I am also concerned about our lack of an inside game. There will be games where the 3's wont be falling as nicely as they did last night.

Who cares what happened at the end of the game?!? Lillard and Pane's battle was an epic battle for 40mins. Lillard got a little revenge for last years game and Pane was frustrated. To me, of course (I'm a huge Weber State fan so I have a bias) Lillard is the better player, but Pane is one hell of a good player too. We should all feel lucky that we had the chance to watch two guards, who are Pro-talent, go at each other. What a game!

I'm still can't talk very well 17 hours after the game!! I loved the crowd.

As for the students...I haven't seen that many students since the 2003 championship game. I hope they keep coming. If the game wouldn't have been on a Tuesday, I bet between 250-500 more students show up. There shouldn't be any complaints about a Tuesday night crowd of 9400 for an instate rivalry. Yes, on a weekend, the Purple Palace has 10 or 11K, but I'll take 9400 and that student section any time.

Other areas of interest. I'm not trying to dis on the Aggies, and I'm sure that Stew has a plan, but the cupboard looks awfully bare for next year. Yes, Burger and Shaw will be available, Harris is coming in, along with a slu of freshman, but the other players aren't very impressive other than the three seniors. It might be a couple of years till Stew is fully loaded again. Reed and Thorton weren't that impressive. I do like Thoseby and I think he will be a force in the future, especially outside. But the rest. hmmm...I hope I'm wrong. But you can't put a lot of faith in freshmen to produce automatically. Davis and Bradshaw are great additions though.

Disclaimer from my earlier post...Lillard usually hits two or three more shots from outside. So...

One area of concern is our inside scoring. Mook and Mahoney are both solid defenders but don't really provide much on the offensive end. Maybe I'm over-reacting, but I am a bit worried. Yes, I know both, if needed, can score, but. To me, it seems like Tres and Fulton will be required to provide some offense, which I think is our best bet for a solid inside game. I really like Fulton's mailman esque fade away.

I agree, but thats not part of his game. I wish it were, but... However, Fulton has some great moves down low. He knows how to create shots for himself.
