UTAH STATE YIKES

I just saw that Kyle Davis is now leaving their program. He is a really good player. I think he was the reason why they beat us this year. They also lost Stone and Berger, but neither of those guys were that great. Plus they have 5 SR's graduating. If we were going to beat USU in Logan ever, next season would be the year to do it. The only guy they have returning that scares me even a little is that super skinny Moore kid with the Froooo hair. lol. I don't think he is anything special though. I know they have a couple JC's coming in, but losing 8 guys is a lot. Who knows, maybe more players will leave. How much longer will Stew last up there? I'm sure USU will be picked dead last next year in the MW and if they totally suck I can see Stew getting canned. How worried would any of you be that they would come after Rahe? UGHHH. The thought of Rahe coaching USU makes me nauseous. I'm glad USU is going to suck. I really don't like them. Worst fans I have ever encountered, and usually I don't say much about other teams fans. They deserve a crappy program with how they act in my opinion. ha ha.

Stew is cleaning house. He must have a lot of JC kids lined up. There is little left in the high school ranks and there really isn't a lot at the JCs either. Whatever the case may be on recruits, he must believe that it was impossible to win in the MWC with the guys he had. He is going to try to get some athletes to match SDSU. It won't happen this spring. It may be a total rebuild going on in Logan. Stew could end up with everyone else's problem children next year. Buckle up boys, it's going to be a rough ride in Logan for a while. :twocents:

Uve never seen byu fans I guess. Oh the ucla fans were also lame.

It would be nice to win in logan but we ain't done that in over 20 yrs so I won't hold me breaf.

:blah: :blah: :blah: I hate it when you're right. We need to start planning the road trip now so that we can have a decent contingent when we break the streak. You coming, CatCat? :poke:

I don't think we would have interest in any of these guys. If Stew doesn't think they are winners, they probably aren't.

I'm not too worried. Stew is cleaning house. He knows he can't win with the team he has. To compete in the MW he needs a different type of athlete. He lived off of Utah kids for years, but he isn't getting the top recruits anymore. BYU doesn't make the same mistakes as they once did and Utah is getting what they want in the state. Stew has to leave the state and he isn't very good at that. One thing he has done really well is recruit the JC ranks.

And by the way, Olds what are you talking about? The JC ranks still have a lot of talent. In the same time period that you consistently say there aren't good JC players I can name a nice handful for you who have attended Weber (Dezmon Harris, BVB, Art, Billings, McCoy, Daviin Davis, Franklin Session (he was the Newcomer of the Year in the League), Lyndsey Hughey, Scotty Bamforth just to name a few). Without these guys our team wouldn't have had the success they have had. Most of the above listed guys also won conference awards. That is just Weber State. In our conference there are a handful of guys who make an impact on an annual basis who are coming from the JC ranks.

Weber's style of recruiting has changed. The Cats are getting a better athlete out of high school, and with Rahe's system, more time is better for the program and for the player. Yes, I would much rather have high school players who can play virtually immediately than JC guys who are role players. I will agree with you that Weber is only going to sign guys from the JC level who can immediately contribute. But if you have an available scholarship, you don't sit on it. It is your 13 guy, what are the chances of him playing anyway. I'd rather have a decent JC than a July high school signee use our 13.

It sure looks like Stew has lost control of a program by all accounts. Besides Berger these are defections. No way Stew wanted to lose Davis or Stone. We win last year if K Davis isn't on the floor for USU. With defections and graduation, and their only promising player in Moore (Collette maybe ends up at Byu) USU has just become the new Utah. Like Rahe Stew nearly lost an entire recruiting class Bradshaw, Bair before that Walker, and most recently Shanks. Unlike Rahe, Stew has failed to reload Gittens, Senglin, Hill, and Weber's incoming class looks promising on the surface.

Stew ain't cleaning house. These guys didn't want to be there anymore. Kids don't like playing in Stew's program anymore. That's been pretty clear the past several seasons. This is happening every year now.

Tal;

I got the general information about the talent in JCs from our coaches. Yes, in the past, we have had some good JC transfers. They told me that those kind of guys are hard to come by in the JC ranks these days. That whole world has changed with the proliferation of the Prep schools. Our coaches have been out scouring the JC ranks and have found little that could help us much. I'm not saying that there are NO JC players out there, just few.

Our coaches have totally gone away from JC kids because it is far better getting a kid for four years rather than 2 years. So, if you can get a talented kid right away then why put all of your eggs into the JUCO basket? I like our current recruiting strategy far more than having to put a lot of faith in JCs. I don't understand, if PREP schools are so awesome, why Weber isn't involved in more PREP school athletes. Just me...Brett Jolley was dropped went and now is going to St. Louis.

As for USU...I want to point out to two season in Weber State history where most of the team left and the next years results. In 1980-81 the team revolted against McCarthy, much like it seems is happening in Logan. Yes, the next season was rough and one of the worst in Weber State history. However, Neil got the most out of those guys and ended up building the team back up. It wasn't his fault for the demise, but Gary Crompton's for hiring Larry Farmer. Next example, after the 2005-06 season most of the lettermen left and Weber only had three returning players (JP, Patton, and Henry) the rest were mostly JC kids and the Cats ended up winning the Sky the next season and going dancin. Most of the guys leaving the Aggies program really aren't the greatest players. Berger, Stone, and Davis (heard he wants BYU...IDIOT, he should go back to SUU) all should go to a school where their talents fits the program better.

What is happening at these prep schools is exactly what was happening at JCs before. Players are getting scholarships to attend and are being placed by recruiters who can't get them into their D1 programs for academic reasons. The players are not losing any eligibility by doing this, like they would going to a JC. It's like getting another year of high school with a lot of individualized academic attention and better coaching.

Most of the kids at these prep schools are already attached to a D1 program and the ones who are not are usually marginal players. It really isn't open recruiting, like you might think.

I believe that the NCAA may rule on the eligibility issue soon. It does seem to me that it is post high school experience and should count as a year played. Maybe they are saying that these kids have not graduated high school yet and that is why they are getting an additional year of high school. Anyway, it all seems kind of fishy to me. To me, any year of organized basketball, after the normal years of high school, should count against eligibility to the NCAA. :twocents:

Marcel Davis transferring too.

He is transferring because he wants to go to med school earlier. I don't really see how leaving USU and transferring is going to help him get into med School quicker. Actually, it will do the exact opposite. It will slow his progress. Nice smoke screen coming from Logan on this one. Marcel Davis wasn't good enough to play MW ball. End of story. Wasn't he going to be better than Lillard??

I do wish him the best and hope he lands somewhere, but don't try to pull "I'm transferring because I want to go to [put any professional/graduate school in here]," since it isn't true. Transferring hurts academic progress. If you wanted to go to med school, why chose USU in the first place?

Interesting... In light of BYU-Hawaii announcing that they are eliminating athletics. They will likely be one and done. Just not like the UK players.
