Utah State

Thanks for posting that. This should be an interesting game.

It'll be curious to see if McEwen plays for Utah State. If not, I'm assuming that our back court pressure that's been so effective so far will play a big part of the game tonight.

I wonder how many folks will make their way out to the MC tonight.

A sentence that I never thought that I’d ever say: “We’re 4-0 and have #1 Duke coming into town this week.”

Good to get the win last night. At the half I thought we may run away with this, but we’re Vikings; Things aren’t easy. Great job by Utah State to make some halftime adjustments and get us out of any sort of offensive rhythm for the better part of the second half. Utah State took the opportunity to drop a bunch of shots on us. They have some great shooters, Miller in particular.

Some thoughts:

- Great start. Pressure, pressure and more pressure. Utah State missed some early opportunities when breaking our pressure early on their right side, but they didn’t seem to see it open. It would have resulted in some easy two on ones, but it seemed to be corrected by us after a few sets.

- Mayhew had extended minutes tonight. I’m not a fan of the two deep (one was very deep) threes that he took, but I thought he had a solid game with his plus minutes. Nice forced turnover late when the pressure from our defense was starting to get tight. Good to see him play well, but bad to see North out. Hopefully North will be back on Thursday.

- Officials. 53 personal fouls called. 53 personal fouls. It wasn’t even much of a scrappy game between the teams. Oh, and it should have been 54 fouls, as they missed that one on our guy trying to lay the ball in and the slap seemed to echo in the empty arena.

- 70.6% from the free throw stripe. I’ll take it! If we can do that night in and night out, it’ll help our cause.

- I was impressed with the team’s resolve. How many times have we seen a big lead evaporate into a loss over the years? We missed a lot of close shots in the second half that probably would have kept Utah State at bay, but losing the lead and getting through the rough shooting with defense showed me something.

- Scary moment with our guy down on the floor last night (that was Hollins, right?). Never good when your face hits the floor like that. Good to see him get back on the floor.

- As empty (and cold) as the Coliseum was last night, the bigger venue seems like watching a legit Division I basketball game. The Pavilion can’t be completed soon enough.

- Bring on Duke!!!!
