Utah Valley State Basketball

I think the scheduling folks are looking for higher level competition, and not look that WSU only plays in-state non-conference games

So are Western St and Montana Tech higher level competition?

I think we've played them three times. We lost to them in Orem, and maybe that is why we stopped putting them on the schedule. If memory serves, that is what happened to us against Utah State in the mid-90's. We beat them three times in a row, and we were off their schedule for a year and then played them at the Delta Center instead of Ogden.

You are right. What was the reason? Or were they just pulling a BYU? lol

yr - winner - score - location - overall series
1990 Utah State 70-52 Logan 18-20
1990 Utah State 64-62 Ogden 18-21
1991 Utah State 77-62 Logan 18-22
1991 Utah State 82-72 Ogden 18-23
1992 Utah State 92-78 Ogden 18-24

1993 Weber State 85-80 Ogden 19-25
1994 Weber State 87-86 Logan 20-25
1995 No Game - - 20-25
1996 Weber State 81-79 Neutral-SLC 21-25

There is no valid reason why we do not play UVU or SUU every year. I don't care if they suck or any other reason. They are in our own state and are DI. It makes us look like BYU by not playing them.

believe that the all time record between UVU and WSU is 2-2.. Each team winning on their home floors. WSU has never beaten them in Orem. I remember that these games were home for home in the same seasons.

I believe it has more to do with certain, back stabbing, individuals associated with that program than the won/loss records. I think that it is unlikely we will play that school unless there are complete personnel changes on both sides. This situation is nothing like USU or BYU. This goes deep into WSU athletic department history and, to a degree, with our current staff as well.

Catcat have your ever thought that this issue has nothing to do with Weber State, but everything to do with UVU? Maybe they don't want to play us. Don't start blaming Weber State, or coach Rahe, for not playing UVU. There is a lot more to it than we know, can see, or understand. However, I'm sure there are issues for not playing each other stemming from both programs. You know my opinion on the matter, I think it would be good to play them every year, especially now. But its not happening...I'm sure there will come a time when Weber and UVU play each other.

Oh, oldrunner you are hitting it right on the nose...

i didnt blame anyone, you are putting words in my mouth. i just said i dont care what the reseason is and we shoudl be playing. since we are the better program it just makes us look bad for those who know nothing.

the real problem started back in 1974-75 when Coach Mccarthy was here and his asst coaches were, Coach Pete Berry and ? and they worked on his roof reroofing McCarthy's home and the next week fired them...Coach Berry went on to San Francisco fame, National Champs. anyway, Dick Hunsaker backed stabbed the then coaching staff and went on from there... Many of the old administration is still around and hard feelings are still felt.. With many of the coaching changes and Dick Hunsaker applied for the job every time and never really getting a real look, there are feelings... should we play them ? Maybe.. are we going to? no... Coach Rahe is very aware of who applies against you on coaching positions, so move on... we already play Utah, Utah State, Byu, and SUSC,. that really is enough instate..Just a note, nobody questions Coach Hunsakers ability to be a good Coach, but there are ethics.rudeness . bad attitude..he made a mistake and has paid for it over the years,, I'm sure that he regrets it..I was there, in the room...when this went down,.. Go Wildcats...

yikes! i guess that answers the orginal question of this thread

im just tryin to be realistic, seeing some of the teams on the schedule every year i'd rather be playing in-state DI's no matter who they are. i dont really care about uvu just that they are a DI that is so close to us that we never play. as well if it meant replacing DIIz and NAIAz that is a great reason to play them but that would never happen. we will always have 1 or 2 non DIz every year.

and if we have to play a non DI i'd love to see Dixie St come to the Dee instead of Fort Lewis and Mt Tech. Dixie played at Utah a few yrs ago but I don't think they have ever played us or byu or usu. but discussing which non DI's we should/n't play is a waste of time because no one cares about those games. just look at the attendance for the non DIz compared to the DIz at the Dee each year. Playing non would help our attendance though we might not have those 1 or 2 guaranteed W's and at home.

I would rather play SUU and UVU at home rather than Mt Tech and Western State at home, but I would also rather play home to UNLV or San Diego State than SUU or UVU
