weber vs uvu all-time: 6-5
ogden: 6-0
orem: 0-5

in recent yrs since we have been playing uvu consistently i assumed we had finally won in orem. apparently that is not the case  :ohno: this means we have never won a game in utah county, not at uvu or byu and not at byu in a neutral court game. :yikes: i am not sure how many games that is but i think around 30.

Thank you for posting these stats. I would have thought Weber would have a better record against UVU. UVU has been on the rise and we better take them seriously--I can't imagine we wouldn't after getting our trash kicked by them last year. Their record is a little deceiving because they've played some really great competition and been in most of those games. Anyone can beat anyone else on a given night, so it's best to show up ready to play. I continue to be concerned with Weber's turnovers and assists. I assume coaches can see what a terrible ratio this team has of assists:TO's.

we won the first 2 ever in logan and 3 of first 7 in the spectrum yet at uvu we are 0-5 all-time. i cant find byu and utah stats. ill try to look it up.

This might not technically be true anymore

I believe the Wednesday, December 7th, 2016, @BYU (Marriot Center) 66-77 loss will be changed to a win for the Wildkitties. We'll take those Utah County wins any way we can get them! Now, if only UVU could have to forfeit an Orem win, Weber would be sitting pretty.

I honestly think this is a pretty important game for the Cats. They need to show who they're going to be before conference starts. The juggernaut that ran, shot well and shared the ball against BYU. Or, the poor shooting, interior-wall-banging, turn-over prone team that got killed by Fresno and turned away by USU.

This offense experiment needs to find some consistency starting Saturday. It's UVU, a gimme and then things get really serious. No time for any more growing pains.

I thoroughly agree with your evaluation. The Cats better show up and have some moxy this week. Last year UVU completely beat the Cats in Orem. That game was a total butt-kicking and should have embarrassed the team and coaching staff. Pope has UVU going in the right direction and they have some good athletes who are fundamentally sound.

Including 4 RMs.

They don't have that big transfer center out of Oklahoma this year though. That kid was a load and really killed us last year.

Thoroughly disappointed in first half effort. UVU came to play, and Wildcats fell in way too big of a hole and looked disinterested and got started too late. Pope worked the refs the whole game, and Randy just shook his head. Sad to see the Wildcats throttled at the Dee.

3 games in a row where we came out unprepared and hit like 20% of our shots for the first 15 minutes (if not more) while our opponent built big leads.

Fresno Harding 4 - 14
USU Harding 2 - 10
UVU Harding 3 -13

I'm sure it's pretty clear to opposing coaches that you stop Harding you stop us. And they have done a really good job stopping him the last 3 games. I expect him to play better going forward, but he is going to have to find how to score when he has increased pressure. John is playing well, Chapman is playing OK, and I think we are probably getting what expect out of Braxton. But no Harding so far!

Fresno 3-pt 4 - 20
USU 3-pt 6 - 22
UVU 3-pt 4 - 16

I said in an early post about this new offense that to make it work you have to hit 3's and shoot FTs well -- which we traditionally do. It happened against the Y, but these three games we took major steps backwards and the players looked disorganized for huge stretches and have thrown up some ugly 3's.

The quick pace seems to have our freshman disoriented. I think this really shows up on the defense end where we just seem lost. USU and UVU both scored at will on us until we seemed to reset things in the second half. Barnes has scored a few points as a starter, but with a very low shooting %. Kupsas just hasn't gotten into the D1 flow and hardly scores. He has also fouled a bunch as well as he seems a half-step behind and plays with his hands. Kozak didn't score against UVU. Nero had a great game against USU, but was way out of whack last night. And it doesn't help that Doc looks lost having scored 4 points total in the last 3 games. And just to add it, Zdor should play more. He actually brings something when he comes in.

To beat us you let John, Chapman, Braxton do their thing, stop Harding and just let the young guys come in because they aren't much of a threat -- and you can beat the crap out of them when they play defense.

It is interesting that Rahe has had this huge offensive philosophy shift. There have been lots of complaints that he needed to do something different. Well it's here and he seems determined to go with it. But we sure have a long way to go, and some young players that better get their act together, to get any consistency out of it.

I'll never be in favor of a poor defense, high 3pt shooting philosophy but I do think Rahe has had some teams that needed to be more up-tempo. Maybe these are those up-tempo type players but if they're not skilled basketball players, the tempo isn't going to change much. I've only seen Weber play 3 times this year (BYU/USU on TV and UVU at the DEC) and have not been impressed what so ever in any of the three. It sure doesn't look like quality or exciting basketball being played right now. UVU wasn't great by any means but looked like a group of players coached to their abilities and with a passion to win. To the casual observer, it looked like one team had a solid game plan and went out and executed it. The other team looked disinterested on one end of the floor and somewhat out of sorts on the other end. I really don't remember ever being so disengaged from a DEC game, and a in-state rival no less. I'm so soured on the whole basketball experience right now-- it's sad. :-(

Everything is just fine! All that really matters is conference. Who cares if Weber losses to UVU (or gets its ass totally kicked on its home floor) as long as Weber wins just enough to stay relevant in the Sky. Doesn't matter if Weber is relevant in Utah or in its own community. Generating revenue, interest, and support are non factors. Only thing that matters is that we, no matter what, support Weber State Basketball because we are fans. Who cares if the team is terrible, leaderless, selfish, and poorly coached...just support it without complaint.

It's sad but true that this is th attitude that is slowly killing Weber St basketball. Too much complacency in being the 4th fiddle in the state (who the freaking heck is okay with 4th!). We have officially been passed as 4th now and sit at 5th but hey we might be relevant in the awful Big Sky!

I realized earlier today that you could argue we are in one of the worst eras of Weber State basketball ever. Weber has not won an NCAA tournament game in 20 years, 20! We have a whole generation that had never seen a tourney win now. Has there ever been a gap so big? You wonder why they aren't interested, well we've done nothing of significance for 20 years now and watch as teams with similar or worse resources actually make noise and get better but hey we "could be so much worse". Weber will continue to progressively get worse and of less importance until something changes.

Amen, to both what you said. I wanted to see the quotes after the game to see if there was any outrage like me. Chapman said it was due to poor defensive effort...BINGO! Rahe then made the same old quotes of they’re just not falling in right now, and we will figure it out. But the biggest whopper was “when you put yourselves out there, you are going to lose some.” WTF?

It’s called playing the teams in your state. Fresno State may have been the toughest game...but it is winnable! This is one of the lighter schedules they have had, and they are going to go what 6-5?

To me this shows Rahe wants to play cupcakes and then try and win the conference one in every four years. Weber State has the best venue and best fans and should be aiming to dominate this conference and aiming to win all the instate games to make a statement. Anything less than that is unacceptable!

If Rahe doesn’t care to make that his goals, than maybe it’s time to move on. Abegglin and Cravens would have called a timeout early into the first half and yelled the team out until they played full energy. Rahe just shook his head. I’ll take a scrapper like Brad Barton who gets everything and more out his talent and goes to the wall over a player that has all the talent in the world but can’t put the energy into every game.

I realized I had the same look on my face watching that game as I do when I have to clean the dog poop after a 2-3 month break. COME ON Weber State! Get it together!
